Easy and fast. However the lady at the counter insisted that my daughter was eligible for K4 (which we knew she wasn't), but of course a month later the same lady admitted that she was in error. So much for the employees being the experts....

My interview was on Oct 15th in Montreal. I stayed accross the street at the Tour Centre ville hotel - got a very nice room on the 11th floor was like an apartment for $112 with taxes incl. Great place to be just for the interview purpose.
Went at 7 am to stand in line and there were 7 others before me. the doors opened at 7:30am and a security gaurd asked for the appt letter and passport -one by one we were checked the ladies on one side and the guys on the other by another security gaurd who was very nice. When it was my turn I had to remove my jacket and the security guy gave me a Letter which was D - I was the forth in line for the K1 interview. I had all my papers in a nice binder with my pics in front.. yes they do allow binders. I had one card that my Fiance had sent me and it had 4 buttons with LOVE on it and that was a problem to the security guy sitting behind the counter but they were nice about it and said I was in Love and I had to go downstairs where the others we... read complete review

Arrived early for the interview in Montreal (7:30am) There are hotels close to the consulate, and though I thought parking was a bit pricey at least in a hotel parking lot it would be safe. Doors open at 8:00am sharp, by 8:30am your in a waiting room. If there is no problems with forms, medical, original documents, payments, you could be completed by 10:15am like I was. After such a long delay with NVC doing forms (18 mths), the interview was a piece of cake. By the way.. I was approved
NOTE: It is wise to take all receipts of payments made to NVC. One couple were in a delay because there was no proof of paying for the I-129F paperwork, and it wasn't showing up at the consulates computer systems.

I got to the embassy at roughly 7:17. Over the next 10 minutes, a guy and another couple arrived and got in line. When 7:30 came around, we were all let in.
We were taken through some glass doors into a small holding area before we could proceed to the gentleman working the security checkpoint. They asked for my cell phone along with a few others in line. Afterwards, my appointment letter was taken and affixed to a plastic letter which I was given and told to go downstairs with the rest of the group and wait in the waiting room. While waiting, you are able to review a sheet that outlines what order the paperwork will be asked for once you reach the officers upstairs.
A guard asked for those with letters A-E (only letter available) to come forward and take a ride on the elevator up to the 19th floor. We all sat down once more in the new waiting area by 8:00am. At this point, letters were called one by one to provide paperwork and take care of administrative stuff. They we... read complete review

Overall, the interview was quite easy and suprisingly non-stressful (as long as you follow the VJ guide and bring the correct documents!!).
I was allowed to go through security around 12:40ish. As others have stated, there are two sets of security points, one at the building's entrance and the other at the entrance to the visa office. You enter the side entrance, go through security, walk up a set of stairs to a security guard controlled elevator where He/she will send you up to the 20th floor. You then go through the second set of security (hint: just carry your belongings in hand until you pass through the second security checkpoint (i.e. watch, loose change, belts, jackets). In one afternoon I went through these security check-points three times, each time they treated me as an unknown. The majority of the guards were also ESL, so be prepared for directives in broken english (i.e.: "other persons" (repeated three times) was translated as, "is anyone attending the inte... read complete review
