My visa interview was on Sep. 16/11 at 10 AM. I was staying in Surrey (with relatives), which is very far from downtown Vancouver, but the Skytrain is cheap ($5 from Surrey) and fast (35 minutes). I got off at the Burrard Skytrain station, which is only 1.5 blocks from the US Consulate.

Getting into the US Consulate was a bit of a gong show.javascript:emoticon('') The line-up was long outside (10-15 people), but they were processing people quickly. I was asked if I had any metal or electronics, which i indicated I did. Then she looked at my laptop bag (no laptop inside, just my paperwork) and she said I couldn't bring it in. She indicated I could drop it off at where I'm staying (impossible for me; too far away), or a store across the street. I went to a convenience store (next to Purolator) directly across the street and asked they guy if I could leave it there. The convenience story guy said "Yes. $5 please." Obviously, he had done this before. He re... read complete review

It really was a piece of cake if you go prepared and organized with everything they tell you to bring. And copies of everything as well. Get there an hour or so before it opens and wait outside. A line will form and later you will be happy you were at the front of it! The actual interview was less than 5 mins and very easy. That might be because we were both there (YES BOTH SHOULD GO IF AT ALL POSSIBLE).

My visit to the Vancouver Consulate was to file a Consular Report of Birth Abroad for my 2-yr old.

Our appointment was for 8:30, we arrived at the consulate around 8:15. There were maybe 30 people in the visa line, but not a single person in the US Citizen services line, so we were called in to security right away. We made sure not to take any electronics or have anything in our pockets. I only had a small bag to carry paperwork and ID and a few books and crayons for my daughter. The first guard went through my paperwork and made me go outside to open up my school transcripts. He then stamped them "Inspected" and handed me my bag and paperwork back. After being wanded, my husband, my daughter and I were directed upstairs where my bag was sent through an x-ray machine, and then to an elevator where another guard immediately took us up to the 20th floor. Once there, we were sent to window 11 to check in and recieve our number. We sat and waited for maybe 10 minutes and the... read complete review

On August 29, I went to Medisys in Montreal for my medical interview which consisted of the following:
1. Checked in with receptionist - showed passport, gave 3 passport photos, gave immunization records
2. Chest x-ray
3. Blood pressure checked, blood drawn and vision test
4. Immunization records confirmed (none needed for me)
5. Doctor visit - checked throat, ears, breathing, asked about smoking & alcohol history, checked eyes
6. Checked out with receptionist and paid $213.48 CAD including tax (I would have paid more if I had needed any immunizations).

Each segment only took a few minutes but with wait times between segments, the whole interview took about 3 hours.

On September 9, I had my immigration interview for the K-1 Fiancé Visa. My fiancé and I arrived outside at 6:40 am and the next person arrived about 6:55 am. By 7:30 am the line was quite long. The security guard made everyone line up to the left of ... read complete review

I arrived at 6:30am and was first in line - bonus!

The security guard arrived shortly before 7:30am and started the process of getting everyone set to go inside, aiding a wheelchair bound lady first (which was fine with everyone in line). Do not bring anything electronic with you - you will be sent away. I brought a paperback book to read but ended up not even needing it.

After going thru security you are guided to go downstairs and thru to a room that has a barricaded spot in front of an elevator (sit as close to this as possible as you will be getting on that elevator - first on first off).

When I was there the guard called forth someone from the back of the room and instructed him on before all the rest of us - not sure what was up with that.

We arrived upstairs at 8:02am and had to go thru the cashier line to get our ticket stub (C3 yay) and then sat down to await our numbers to be called. I was called 2nd, even though ... read complete review
