My husband and I came to Bulgaria for my 16-year-old stepson's IR-2 interview (also to fly with to the U.S.) We asked the guard at the embassy who would be allowed to attend with him, and he told us whoever's name was on the interview letter. The only name on the letter was mine as the Agent on the case, but as I suspected, only my husband (as the petitioner) was allowed in on the day of the interview.
My stepson did not get asked really any questions, they were all for his father: how did you become a citizen, a few questions about me and his family (he said the CO was pleasantly surprised to find out that his son's mother and I were outside the embassy together with his other son). They did look at all the photos we brought (~40 in plastic sleeves, from birth until the day before the interview) so, as was our experience for my husband's CR-1 interview: Sofia embassy loves photos. Bring photos!
