I had to fly up from Melbourne for my interview so I stayed at the Travelodge in Phillip St - basic but comfortable enough and close enough to St James station if you are catching the train to and from the airport. It also doubles as the NSW Leagues Club which threw me for a bit when I first arrived as I wasn't sure I had the right place. Anyway, onto the interview ...

I got to the MLC building about 7.25am and went straight up the lifts to the 10th floor - I think they'd just opened as I noticed several people sitting in the lounge chairs near the lifts with folders of documents, obviously waiting for visa appointments also. We were told to queue in the hall until 8.45, at which time the security door opened and we went through. I was second in line, showed my appointment letter and passport, went through the metal detector twice as my shoes set it off the first time. I had to leave my handbag/mobile phone at the security desk for later collection, then I sat in th... read complete review

So, my experiences, mid November last year:

I flew up from Melbourne the night before and wandered down from my hotel. Got there about 7.45am, and at least five people were there and waiting on Level 10 in the seats (later found out that three were K1 applicants). Went through the security check, sat there for about ten minutes, and 8am or so, we got sent up to Level 59.

Tip: bring as few bags as possible. I had checked out of my hotel, and whilst I only had an overnight bag, I had a backpack of camera gear (my flight to Melbourne wasn't til 5pm, so I wanted to do some photography). Bad idea, in terms of annoying security with all the bags.

Take a number. The machine isn't that visible, but it's right in front of you as you walk through the door, having passed the metal detector. Another inconsistency: the K-1 visa at this point is classified as an Immigrant Visa (more on this later, as it is Non Immigrant everywhere else).

I ... read complete review

Where to start....

I got to the Consulate about 7.30am and the lifts were open about 7.40am so I had to wait until then. Remembered to be last in the lift so I ended up first in line at Level 10 where my bags were searched. At security on Level 59 they took my mobile phone and gave me a ticket..oh and they made me drink some of my water in front of them (I guess in case I was carrying something harmful??). I got the first ticket once inside the actual Consulate.

The Wiggles arrived shortly after me....first Geoff, then Cap't Feathersword and the others....seriously, can you believe it! Which was the start to a rather entertaining morning. Apparently they are touring the USA in a few weeks.

I was called up the Counter 3 at about 8.15am. The lady was really nice. I handed over the papers in the correct order and she told me to take a seat as she had to go through them thoroughly and that she would call me again once she had finished. About 1... read complete review

My daughter and I had to fly to Sydney from Perth so we stayed at the Travelodge on Phillips St. Closest hotel I could see (as recommended in another member's review!). Got to the MLC building at 7:30am and went to the 10th floor. Progressed quickly through to the 59th floor. Received Immigrant visa number 002. I was very apprehensive but all the staff were very friendly. I was a little bit concerned when they asked me about my own funds. I had shown I have a house in Australia which I am getting ready to sell, but they wanted to see a sale contract. I reminded them that they advise us against selling our house until the visa is approved. It was a nervous wait for the interview as the filing clerk said the consular officer would have to make a decision on whether to accept my evidence. Fortunately he did.
I was surprise how quickly it all happened. I anticipated spending the whole morning there and we brought travel Scrabble along to kill time. I was so nervous I was shaking and... read complete review
