16 September, was the interiew date. We arrived at 7:15 and were told to wait until 7:30 before taking the elevators to the 10th floor. 7:30 we were on the elevator and much to our surprise once we got there were already two people waiting. We continued to wait, then the security people came and opened the doors to set up after 8:00. Once inside, we were instructed to have our appointment letter and identification in hand. We had to turn off cell phones and I had to leave my purse with them. My husband had to take off his shoes and belt. You are only allowed to take your papers with you. SO anything not associated with your case must stay in the assigned cubby! Security will then give you a number that you will return in exchange for your items.
Once everyone was screened, security escorted us to the elevators and pressed the button to the 59th floor. Once off the elevator, there is a sign that says go to the left which took you to another security check point.

Arrived 9.30am for 10am appointment. 2.5 hrs waiting for a 2 minute interview. The waiting was probably the hardest part. Helps to look at the spectacular view. First number call was for fingerprints and checking that the papers were in order. Then the interview with another consular officer - "How long have you been married?", "Where does your husband live?". Sign a few things. Then "Your visa is approved. You'll receive it in the mail in a couple of days." Pretty painless! Consular officers were very nice.

I had an early morning appoitment, to say I was nervous once I got inside was an understatment! Because it is all out in the open I witnessed one couple get denied then a few people there by themselves also get denied. I got called up a couple of times to speak with two women who were looking over my papers. After waiting about an hour I was called for the interview. I was asked basic questions about how we met, what my other 1/2 does etc. I also showed photos, phone records, joint bank statements etc. After about 7 minutes of talking he approved my K1. All I could say was "thankyou! If I could hug you I would!" (They are behind bullet proof glass for anyone that has not been)
The waiting is the worst part but it was all worth it, I went down to a pub in Sydney Harbour to celebrate that afternoon!

Had my visa interview on Aug 12 and there were no problems at all. I presented the documents which the interview letter asked me to bring to the first visa officer, had my fingerprints taken with the second officer and finally had my interview with the third consular officer. The questions he asked me were rather general - how long had I been married? Where was my husband? Have I been to the US before? Did I study there? How long have I been in Australia? Where was I before that? When was I intending on moving to the US? etc. I offered to show him some of the I-130 supporting documents I had brought along (photos, joint accounts, affidavits, etc) but he declined and said it sounded like we have a genuine relationship so he doesn't need to see them. He said that everything was in order and that my visa was approved. I was given a letter saying that my visa would be issued within 2 working days and would be returned in the (overnight) Express Post satchel I provided. I was in and out of ... read complete review

We checked in at the Consulate at about 9.50am for our 10am 1-130 appointment. It was quite busy so we didn't get called till about 10.45 but that was fine. The lady in Window #1 was very friendly and we submitted the I-130 documents to her. She didn't take any of our supporting documents though because she said they were for my 2nd interview later on. She noticed that my husband was here on an Aussie spousal visa and asked if he was applying for his PR here (we said yes). Also, with my application I included a letter stating why my official name was still my maiden name (I had lived overseas until last August, QLD has silly name-change residency requirements, I intend on changing my name after arriving in the US). She was extremely understanding and actually offered to have them issue my green card in my married name! (and would include a note as reference to my official (maiden) name).
