Really simple experience.
My appt was for 0830, I arrived at 0800. I was asked to wait outside until 0815.
Once I was called up, I was then directed to wash my hands in the bathroom and then to sanitise them again before going through security.
I only brought my phone and documents with me, my phone was handed in.
Directed into the elevator, arrived to the interview room.
Took a number and waited to be called up. Questions were asked in a casual conversation manner, nothing too crazy or unexpected was asked.
He congratulated me at the end and said I was approved and to keep an eye out for my package in the mail.

My interview date was set for January 5th 2021 at 11.30am
I live in Sydney and was familiar with the area. If you are not the consulate is located on Martin place a short walk from the train station. It is currently under heavy constructions but there are signs everywhere with multiple entry points. the easiest way to enter is through the food court and make your way up. If in doubt ask reception, as I arrived later in the day the lift up to level 10 was unlocked so I went right up. Once you get out of the lifts there are signs to walk through to the security section of the consulate, it’s a corridor with a few twists and turns. I had arrived in the MLC building early after reading the reviews I thought I might be able to do the interview before my scheduled slot.
They asked me to come back at 11.15am (I believe due to COVID restrictions). My spouse was waiting downstairs the entire time so a long wait for her in this instance! when I arrived back... read complete review

My fiancé had a great experience with the Sydney consulate. Adding on to the previous reviews:
Per the post below and our experience, no express envelope was needed for the interview. The passport is sent through Toll and took 3-4 business days to arrive.

My experience at the US Consulate in Sydney was pretty positive. Had to wash our hands and then sanitise before entering, and my phone was put in a little bag and I was given a number to collect it after the interview. Process took a bit longer than I expected but wasn't an extremely long time. Fingerprint scans and a few questions while they looked at my documents and then I was approved. They said my passport should arrive back to me in 10-15 days. My interviewer was quite friendly and I didn't feel too nervous thanks to that.

I arrive 45 minutes early but had to wait until 30 mins before interview. Going inside I was made to wash my hands then sanitize, all my paperwork was checked before entering. Small lockers were available to leave phone or other small things before going into interview. Passed for metal detector, and took elevator to another floor.
In that office you take a number and wait, then papers checked again. The guy didn't like the marriage certificate, because it was not original but certified copy which they allowed. Waiting again and called up to a counter with glass window for the interview. I was sworn to tell the truth, then he looked over the financial papers mainly, technically we had enough money from using assets but he cared more about salaries and we were lucky that we had a sponsor because he was not impressed with assets. With the sponsors salaries everything was ok. He asked where my partner had worked in Australia and what kind of jobs. He checked my birth certi... read complete review
