Today I had my interview at the US Consulate. We live about 90 minutes north of Sydney, so it was an easy matter for us to get there about half an hour early, as we planned. For what it's worth, I wore decent jeans, a short-sleeved plain casual shirt and shoes (not runners), and had shaved that morning so I looked fairly presentable (well, for me, anyway).
The Consulate office is on the 59th floor, but don't be fooled - get off at the 10th floor, which is where reception actually is. There was nothing on any of my correspondence to tell us that - somebody on another floor in the building had to fill us in.
Anyway, we got off at the 10th floor, and it was like an airport security check. Everything out of your pockets, all your bags, etc., through a scanner, then you walk through a scanner too. We went up through security to the waiting room. We were called to a counter where they took most of our documents and then approximately 20 mins later we were called for our over the counter interview. I had a jacket which I dumped on my husband (I was trying to get our remaining documents out) and said, "here hold this." My husband then rolled his eyes in way that long term couples do. The guy behind the counter laughed, asked us some very basic questions and within about five mins we were approved and out the door!

The interview was smooth:
My interview was conducted on the 16th of April, 2013 at 9 AM and it was an enjoyable experience. The staff are all professional, kind, and friendly.
I travelled from Perth the day before, so I made sure I checked out exactly where I needed to be as soon as I arrived in Sydney. I went to the MLC Centre around 8.45am.After we got up to the tenth floor, the consulate doors opened and I was the second one through.
At reception staff checked my passport and placed a tick next to my name on the master list. I then placed all of my things on the security screening belt. I had to take any electronic devices out of my bag. I passed through security and deposited my excess gear, but took my paperwork with me.
I sat waiting until called to take the lift up to the 59th floor to my interview conducted. I took the relevant immigrant visa ticket from the ticket machine and sat. It was tense in the waiting room and each and every c... read complete review
