My interview was conducted on the 27th of August, 2013 at 10:45AM and it was a painless, enjoyable experience! The staff were very professional, friendly and courteous, and while they were thorough with their procedure at no point in the interview was I made to feel uncomfortable.

I live in Western Australia, so I wasn't too sure how long it would take me to get to the consulate at the MLC center. I arrived around 9:30. I caught the elevator to the 10th floor and proceeded to US Consulate reception only to find i was a little early and and they told me to go off and have a coffee and come back after 10:00am.
I went back up to front of reception, where a friendly lady checked my passport and placed a tick next to my name in her list. I then was told to place all of my things on the security screening belt. Here I had to take any electronic devices out of my bag. I passed through security with no trouble and deposited my things, taking out only my thick stack of pa... read complete review

The interview went well. My wife had all the supporting docs and extra stuff our lawyer advised but did not need most of it. Just the originals and her passport etc. They asked basic questions like spouse name, daughter name, how support yourself in the USA, where you going to live.
Just make sure you have minima stuff since you cannot take bags up to the consulate and there is very little storage at security.

My interview was at 9am and I had been waiting outside the MLC center since about 7.45am (had breakfast beforehand). 8.30am came and I decided to make my way up. By the time I passed through level ten and took the "30 seconds to the U.S." lift, it was 8.35am and I got my IV ticket. Before my ass could hit the seat, I was called to window four and was greeted by a smiling woman who asked for my passport and anything I was asked to bring in. I asked to update the address my green card will be sent to as my wife and I have sold our house and by the time it is produced, we will have moved. I bought in an updated DS-230 in case, so she just copied it from that to the original from my packet. She then handed me back my original civil documents and other additional documents we had sent.

I handed her the items and she asked me to take a seat while she went through it all. About 5 minutes later she asked me back to the window and got my finger prints and said that everything loo... read complete review

Other reviews have covered most things you need, so I'll not add much:

The Consulate is on the upper floors of the MLC Centre (fanstastic views), but entry is on the 10th. There are no publicly accessible toilets in the consulate proper, the closest are on the 9th floor. There is a sign to this effect AFTER you have gone through security, so useful to know beforehand (the majority of the visa applicants on my visit had small children).

The security check on the 10th requires all metal off your person - down to hair clips. It is more sensitive than your typical airport one. There are two lines - USA citizens in one, foreigners in another.

I very much do NOT recommend traveling to Sydney on the day. My original 06:00am flight from Melbourne was cancelled due to fog at Sydney airport, and the replacement flight I was offered would not have got me there until practically lunch time.

The consulate rescheduled me via email for ... read complete review
