Hi there,
Finally, had my interview in Sydney consulate. The security process is exactly as described in previous posts, so I won't repeat it. I would like however to note several things from my observations. (see below)
1. I did not notice anyone being interviewed for more than 20 minutes, but if there is 12-15 people in front of you, then prepare to spend up to 3 hours in a consulate. Therefore, the time specified in your interview letter means nothing. I suggest you arrive 20 min prior to your official interview time, so they will let you in.
2. Forget about the word "Privacy" as the details of your interview will be heard by ALL the other people waiting to be interviewed. Everyone in the room will hear how did you meet your spouse. Yours or your spouse's criminal convictions (if any), sources of income, previous marriages, etc.
3. You will not be asked ALL the same questions as people in front of you. They ask questions on a case ... read complete review

My time at the consular office took a little longer than expected, mainly because I was also filing for a report of a birth abroad and passports for my two kids. So all up we were there for 3 hours which was a bit hard on the kids. There is a child play area, but it's really only for toddlers. I didn't think you could bring in very much so all I had for the kids was the back of some papers and they were able to grab a pen from the desk. Speaking of what you can/can't bring with you... I wasn't sure if we were going to be allowed to bring our phones into the building, but you can bring them in and leave them with the guards. They give you a number and put your things into a cubby and you get it back when you are ready to go. I could not see anywhere to get a drink in the office where you wait for interview but someone had a bottle so maybe they were allowed to bring it in.
What happens when you get there is that you go to a clerk with your paperwork and they determine wh... read complete review

In and out in 61 minutes. As long as you have your paper work in order the process is very quick and smooth. Have made several visits to the embassy over the past 15 years. The staff are always helpful and friendly.

My appointment was for 9.45, but I was around early so headed up at 9.15. There was no one else there when I walked in and the security team were still doing their morning meeting, but they welcomed me in and took me through the security process.
They were very nice and helpful. Handed over my bag and phone and was left with only my paperwork and wallet. Next to the security desk is a small desk with 2 young women behind it who help sort through your paperwork, making sure you have originals and copies and only pulling out what they will need upstairs.
Turned out I had only brought the original of my police certificate, not a copy of it, so I was sent to an office on the other side of the building to get a photocopy. $1. Lucky I had cash. When I returned there was a line of people waiting for security but because I had already gone through they sent me through the US citizens line so I only lost about 5 minutes of time.
In the lift and upsta... read complete review

I was a nervous wreck before the interview!
Flew in from Melbourne the previous night, stayed on York St, just a 5-6 minute walk from the MLC Centre.
Went up to level 10, went through security, and after leaving my bags with the lovely lady by the metal detector, I got into line to have my documents checked by one of two young women*
Went upstairs, took a number, and waited. I was called up to a window and had my documents checked by a really friendly lady. Back to waiting, and then called up to another window by a pretty stern looking dude.
Questions were:
How did you and your fiance meet? (and when and where)
When did you start dating?
When did you get engaged?
Where in the US does he live?
Have you been to visit him since he moved back?
Have you met his family, and has he met yours?
What does he do for a living?
What do you do for a living?
Then he said ... read complete review
