  1. Wouldn't worry about EAD the GC interview is coming up and you will have the GC soon, EAD would no longer be usable.

Though I have seen some people posting on VJ about never getting EAD and getting the GC.

Thanks! That's very helpful. It just seems like everything up to this point has taken so LONG, and now this has gone fairly fast....so I don't want to feel like it's "too good to be true"?!

  2. my husband and I applied for AOS in May, completed Biometrics June 3rd and have our interview on July 19th. I've been reading around and it says that if all goes well at the interview, then the green card comes within "weeks" of the interview, but someone told me that it can take up to a year?!? Does anyone know if in fact this is true???

Also...we applied for EAD at the same time as our AOS, and have heard NOTHING. Has anyone had the same experience? would love some info!!

    Thanks! -Joanna

  3. You have no idea how much red tape. He can get the SSN 2 weeks after he arrives should not be a problem then you can add him to the bank and medical after your marriage. He will be right

Thanks for the info! It's crazy how much there is to know....and how NO ONE in the system really tells you how to accomplish it!

Yep, SSA is REQUIRED to issue K-1 a SSN within the 90 day period allowed by the I-94, for the reason I indicated "To get a Marriage License" Kind of hard to get hitiched in some states like TN and NC and a few other places that require a SSN.

Wait 2 weeks after entry because it can take USCIS that long to update records SSA uses to confirm immigrations status, and do not wait until 90 days after, SSA will not issue a number if there is less than 10 days or so of legal stay left.

Also later when you do get green-card, revisit SSA to get a replacement card without the restriction notation on it.

Thanks again....we'll wait the 2 weeks, and that should be perfect for the marriage license, etc. as we have 1 month til the wedding once he arrives. It's nice to know there are people out there willing to give us the info! :) Thanks!!!

  4. Many abuses with regard to SSN, K-1 is allowed one for one reason only, to get married. There is a fed law that requires people applying for a "license" to have a SSN, it has to do with dead-beat parents, the law is to track deadbeats when they apply for: (Driver's License, Fishing License, Hunting License, Business License, Marriage License....) Some states are NO SSN, NO License.. Most states do not comply for marriage license however SSA has been instructed to issue to K-1 holders only.

If you get problems with Bank threaten to take business elsewhere. Also this can be the case with med insurance, just call and ask for a supervisor.

I already noticed that on my medical insurance he has to have the SSN, so I am looking into that too, but I can't add him until after we're married anyway. So, the SSA should allow us to apply for the SSN before we're married then? He gets here 1 month before the wedding, so we should have plenty of time then, I suppose. It's crazy how much red tape you have to go through to get things done! The bank just said they can do it with his passport number (Even though it's not a US passport) so that's good news! Thanks again...I feel like there is not a lot of guidance out there...don't know what I'd do without this forum!! :)

  5. Firstly DS-230 part 2 is not used for K-1 visas, and secondly that check box only works for immigrant visas like CR-1 and IR-1 visas.

You need to enter the USA wait about 2 weeks, and then apply for the number at an SSA office.

Thanks, that's very helpful!! I'm just doing research on how to add him to my bank accounts, etc...and they all want a social security or permanent resident card number....which we obviously don't have yet!

  6. Does anyone know how easily/quickly you get a social security number? My fiance checked one of the boxes on a form that said "Apply for Social Security number for me" and I'm wondering if that happens automatically or if he has to do that once he gets to the states?? He's arriving next week, and I need a social security number for him to add him to my health insurance once we're married. Anyone have any advice on this?!?! THANKS! :)

  7. My fiance's interview is set for next Friday (Feb 4th) in London...and we are (for obvious reasons) quite nervous :( and anxious. Does anyone know what kind of questions they ask? We are definitely ready with all of the paperwork and have everything ready to do, but we're just a bit nervous about what types of questions they ask during the acutal interview??? I'd love some advice!!!! :help:

  8. My fiance and I just received word from london after our application was sent on from the NVC to london, and of course, his letter from London got lost in the mail, so the people on the phone gave him a list of forms he had to fill out. One thing the woman said he'd need for the interview was the Affadavit of support, and she mentioned the I864, but everything I read says that it should be the I130??? Does anyone know which one to fill out and send with him? or should I do both? Any advice would be GREAT !

  9. I'm needing a bit of advice. My fiance is from the UK and we are planning for an April 7, 2011 wedding (his brother's in medical school...TIGHT schedule) and we just received our NOA2 Nov 17th. Does anyone know from this point on how long to expect the interview, etc? I've read through the Guides, and tried to estimate, but I'm wondering if anyone has any other info....We have all of our documents ready to go to send to them once we hear from the Embassy, and at this point...I'm stressing on whether I should change the wedding date to later?!?! Anyone have any words of wisdom out there??? I'm quite the stressed out bride!

  10. My Fiance is also from the UK. You have to meet in person, and it sounds like you're thinking a bit ahead at this point. Meet in person first, and go from there. He can come here and you can go there during the process. My fiance has come to visit twice since we applied.

*********Patiently (or not so patiently) Waiting*****************

  11. I too applied in June, and was last "touched" June 30th. I signed up tonight to read this thinking I would feel a little better, but I guess after reading how many people are out there also waiting , it has just made me feel a little more impatient and down. :( I fear this will never happen! Am I wrong in thinking that the 5 months was supposed to be from start to end, actually receiving the visa???
