Don’t knock the Iranian drones. Intelligence reports have Iran carrying a stockpile of around 80,000 drones and still building them at a rate of 400 per day. Yes, they’re basic, yes they’re cheap, at maybe $20K apiece. But it’s the numbers that are doing the damage. An AMRAAM costs over $1m, a Sidewinder $500K, and our SAMs are even more expensive. We will run out of missiles and money long before they run out of drones. We need another way to kill them and cheaply. Welcome to Drone Wars. ☠️

The most interesting part to me is that after deciding not to follow network instructions, he went on to provide a balanced take on the protests, not weighting his report to the pro- or anti- strikes side. The removal of the most significant state sponsor of terror currently in existence may complete the collapse of Hezbollah, severely impact the continued existence of Hamas as a threat and degrade the Houthi threat, amount other regional impacts. The scattergun retaliation seen across the region may also have united the disparate nations, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and others, on the side of Israel, which would be a welcome additional benefit. This will not be a “forever war” as some have intimated. The majority of the Iranian people seem to have welcomed the attack. Let’s hope the Iranian military, or at least a majority of it, sides with the Iranian people and gives them the future they have been seeking.

Williams was flying a Grumman F-9F-5 Panther, a straight-winged carrier-based fighter. The Russians were flying swept-wing MiG 15s. They had about a 100mph speed advantage, could climb faster and their guns carried a heavier punch. And yet Lt. Williams, as he was then, in what ended up a 7 vs 1 dogfight, left 1 Russian plane flyable after the dogfight. There is no way that ever should have happened. It’s not the plane, it’s the pilot.
