  1. Hi,

I'm having a little name change debacle and I wanted to see if I could get some advice.

My fiance is here on her K-1 Visa. We recently got married.

Since we wanted to change her name from her Chinese name to her English name, she signed the marriage certificate with the First AND Last name of her English name. Example: Maiden name: Qin Jin ... Becomes ... Married Name: Jane Doe.

However, when we returned to the Social Security Office to get the name changed on her Social Security Card, they said they can't change both names. They stated they can only change the LAST Name, not the FIRST name.

So, what can we do now? I'm preparing to send in the I-485, but now, I don't know what name to use.

Should I stick with the maiden name: Qin Jin?

Use the full married name: Jane Doe?

Or use the maiden first, and married last name: Jin Doe?

I'm mainly concerned that there could be a problem with the AOS if the name on the marriage certificate does not match the name used on the I-485.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!!!
