My IO didn't check because I wasn't out of the country for a significant number of days -3 weeks at most. And I only left the country 3 times for the past 3 years,

I assume they thoroughly check when you put in you application that you've been out of the country for a long period of time or you leave frequently.

Thank you so much and congratulations! We are also in Brooklyn right around your timeline, but we had a stupid documentation issue at the interview so now we're stuck waiting for them to reply to our RFE before my husband is scheduled for his oath.

i forgot the specific one that I used but just search for Citizenship test, make sure they're version 2014. it will ask for your state and it will give you the correct info (senator, reps).

You'll be fine =) Also, I used an app to quiz me for the Civics test. That was way more convenient the bringing around the booklet with me.

Hello,

I just wanted to share my experience in hopes of helping or providing info to others who will go through the same thing, especially the ones from my area. I applied based on 3-year residency/marriage to a US Citizen.

Here is my timeline:

Fingerprints: 06/12/14 ( I was scheduled for 06/26 but did an early walk-in bio at the Brooklyn location)
Inline for interview: 06/16/14

Yellow letter received: 07/12/14 (dated 07/08/14)
Scheduled for interview: 08/28/14
Date of letter: 08/29/14
Received letter: 09/02/14
Interview date: 10/03/14 (Interview was conducted at 26 Federal Plaza)
Scheduled for oath: 10/08/14

Received letter: 10/14/14

Oath date: 10/22/14 (225 Cadman Plaza in Brooklyn)

Interview:

My appointment is for 12:10 PM. I got there at 12:40 PM. I was not called until 1:40 which was an hour and a half after my appointment. This is slightly odd as from other people's experiences from this location, they were called within 5-20 minutes after their appointment time. The officer first made me sign a paper and my pictures. We then reviewed my whole application. Since my application, 2 changes have been made (birth of a child and tax payment). She just crossed out the old info and put in the new ones. It's fortunate that I got my newborn's birth certificate a week before my interview because she asked for it. She also asked for my 2011 tax transcript. I guess I did not send it with my application. She also asked for more proof of bonafide marriage, like a joint bank account statement. I told her we do not share a bank account. I did however, give a copy of my Geico bill and our lease which had both our names. Those were the only things she asked for. She did not even ask for my state ID which was included in the Yellow letter checklist.

She then proceeded to the questions.

Questions were:

When was the Declaration of Independence?

Name one of the 2 longest rivers.

Who is the Speaker of the House?

How many years do we elect a president?

I forgot the other 2 :huh:

I got all six questions right. We did the reading and writing test. I passed that as well. After that, she handed me a paper that she just printed out. It states that I am recommended for approval. I was out of her room in about 15 minutes.

Oath:

The call time is 8:30 AM. Due to traffic and rain, I got there at 9:20. I was stressing out the entire trip as I was not sure if I won't be let in. I went up to second floor where a lady awaits. She asked for my GC and appointment letter. She mad sure the back part has been filled out. She then made me go inside this huge court room/hall. We were seated in order of our time of arrival. The first person who got there will be called first. At around 10, the officers started calling us, row by row, for our documents. I only handed my GC and appointment letter. The letter was given back to us. Then we had to check our info on the Certificate of Naturalization, to made sure everything is correct. After that, the officers started calling the people with name changes. This took about 10 minutes. A gentleman from Commission on Human Rights then took the floor and spoke about discrimination, our rights, etc. Then, 2 other people spoke and handed out voter registration forms. They explained how important it is for us to vote not just on Federal elections, but also for city and state elections. There were about 300 of us taking the oath that day. A lot of seats are vacant so they let the guests stay inside the hall to witness the oath taking. This is different from what my in-laws experienced 2 weeks ago. The guests can only watch on the projector screen on the 3rd floor. I'm guessing it's because the room was full. Finally, the judge came. Made us take our oath and recite the Pledge of Allegiance. We took our seats and he gave a short speech -about 5 minutes long. After that, the judge left and the officers started handing out the certificates. In exchange, you have to give them the oath date letter. You can leave after that. I was out by 11:40. So it pretty much just took me 2+ hours.

I rushed across the street to apply for my passport at the Cadman Plaza post office. I'm glad I did because the a lot of people started lining up. It takes about 5 minutes for the agent to finish your application so just imagine if you have 10 people ahead of you. Also note that you can't use your credit card to pay for the passport. It can only by debit, cash or money order. I did debit but what he pretty much did was use my card to buy a postal money order. If you did not bring a passport photo, you can get yours taken there for $15. It's pretty pricey so try to get your picture taken ahead of time.

So that's it! I'm done with USCIS!

Can someone please update my timeline? My oath is on the 5th of November!

Congrats!!! You will be a citizen soon! I did apply for a passport. I was such in a high that I got the passport card too which i regret after. lol

Woo hoo, husband passed his interview yesterday! Just waiting on an oath ceremony now. He said that the officer was very nice. My husband was back there twice as long as people who had been called before him, so I was worried, but he said they were just chatting, haha.

He did mention on the N-400 that he'd received a citation (a minor speeding ticket). He was asked about it, and he showed them a payment receipt, which was enough. They asked him my birth date and how many children we had.

The civics questions he remembers were:

1. Who lived here before the Europeans arrived?

2. What are the first 10 amendments to the Constitution called?

3. What is the name of the Speaker of the House?

4. When was the Constitution written?

(Couldn't remember the other two.)

Getting very worried here. I already made travel arrangements for December but I haven't gotten my oath ceremony schedule yet. Still need to get a blue passport to be able to travel for Christmas.

I called USCIS and the gentlemen was very nice and emailed my local office about my situation. We also went ahead and schedule an infopass just in case I didn't hear from the JAX office within 5 days.

Still hoping that everything will work out!!

Hopefully you get it soon! Worst case scenario, you just have to get use her Philippine passport and get the necessary visas.

My husband had his interview today, but they can't yet approve him because they wanted copies of our joint account statements and leases. They did not mention this ANYWHERE in the document list on the letter, not to mention, we've submitted this to them countless times on the other applications. How can they not approve us for something they didn't even say they needed??? I'm fuming angry right now.

I just wanted to post here to warn people to bring everything, even if they don't say it's needed. He went in with only the documents listed on the letter: Green card, passport, tax statements for the last 3 years, both birth certificates, and our marriage certificate. Nope, apparently we have to be mind readers.

Hopefully this only delays us slightly. We are getting it all to them tomorrow, but why do I have a feeling this will take forever to sort out? If they wanted to see it, why the #### wouldn't they ask for it on the letter???

I'm so sorry to hear about your experience and I hope you get your approval soon.

As for the USCIS not mentioning that they need it, I clearly remember reading on the second page of the Interview Notice that if you are applying based on marriage to a US Citizen, you should bring proof of bonafide marriage like joint bank statements, insurance, leases, birth certificates, etc. I believe this is a generic reminder that comes with all Interview letters.

The yellow letter that I previously received did not even mention any of those things. My yellow letter just asked me to bring my State ID and payment plan with IRS. Two nights before my interview, I made sure to reread the INterview letter and that's when I started getting all the necessary docs.

On another note, my husband and I do not have joint bank accounts and it was not a problem.

Congratulations!! Four of us, May filers will become citizens on 10/22!!

I had my interview today, here's how it went..

The interview letter said it was scheduled for 9:55AM and I wasn't to be more than 30 minutes early. I arrived at the building at 9:20AM and waited in line until 10:15AM just to enter the building. (Los Angeles)

I was then told to deposit my slip into a drop box and wait in a room across the hall with a large number of other people. The officers were coming to the door and calling people's names when their turn came.

After waiting for a good 45 minutes, they called my name. My husband wasn't allowed in with me.

Inside the interview room, she had me swear an oath that I'm telling the truth and went over every single question on the application form. She asked if I had any proof or evidence of the basis of my application (by marriage to a US citizen), so I showed her my husband's birth certificate and our marriage license. Next she asked the interview questions:

1. In what month do we vote for president?

2. The house of representatives has how many voting members?

3. We elect a U.S. Representative for how many years?

4. Who is the father of our country?

5. Who is the Chief Justice of the United States now?

6. Name one war fought by the U.S. in the 1900's.

She then asked me to read the sentence, "In what month do we vote for president?" and write the answer on a piece of paper. "We vote for president in November."

I was handed a letter that states I passed my interview and my application was approved.

She took photocopies of my green card, passport and drivers license and asked me to go wait again in the same waiting room for more documents.

I waited in the room until 1:55PM, I guess they took their lunch in the meantime. Finally a lady came with another stack of papers and called a bunch of names. The document was an invitation to the oath ceremony on October 22nd. So 1 more week and I'm a citizen!
