It was a loan. Lesson learned: Never co-sign for a democrat
The DNC said they wouldn't accept corporate donations. So they took a loan, then refused to pay and the corporation (Duke Energy) said they won't collect on it and write it off. Therefore, they took a corporate donation without taking a corporate donation.
What else would you expect form DemocRATS?

You are right Dream Act was going back and forth and Obama signed it right before the election.
Now you do the the math if it was right or wrong timing.
Obama did NOT sign legislation called the Dream Act. That would make it law and presumes it passed both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
Obama signed an executive order effectively deferring deportation for those who arrived in the US as children who meet certain requirements. This is not law and effectively bypassed Congress. The timing of this order, right before the election, is dubious in its motivation at best and at worst it is an abuse of his executive powers.
Since this is an administrative change, USCIS [which is not funded by Congress but only by the fees we pay] processes those deferral applications without assessing a fee. Therefore, USCIS can't hire more people which is delaying all of our petitions, conditions removal, etc.
Welcome to Obama's America. It only gets worse.

They should be allowed to be in Unions if they want but anyone that doesn't want to be part of the union should not be forced to do so and pay dues. Raises and advancement should be merit based. If layoffs need to happen then management gets to choice the best employees they want to retain and not someone who is mediocre but been employed a tad longer. Every few years they shouldn't have to be forced to negotiate a new contract or be threatened with a strike. If the union employees want to strike then let them and the non unions can continue. Communism went out the door.

In the case of a government workforce, those whose interests are served by keeping costs down would include all who pay taxes and fees to said government. In other words, the universe of folks represented by management is far larger than that represented by the union. This inherent tension is the invisible hand of reality that keeps collective bargaining in line.
And that quote is a more eloquently worded fact that has been brewing in my mind all day as I've been thinking about what has been going on.
Growing up in Central Illinois, I have witnessed two major strikes between UAW workers and Caterpillar. At least with those strikes, taxpayers weren't going to be on the hook for the negotiated salaries and benefits; Caterpillar's customers would be when they had to pay extra for earth moving equipment.
Taxpayers don't get a chance to sit across the bargaining table in Wisconsin (nor in Illinois--SEIU bosses "negotiate" with the Democrats they helped put into office), so their only chance for their voice to be heard is to vote.
Their voice was heard and the unions and unionistas don't like it one bit. So what do they do?
They weasel their way out of the democratic process and the Democrat senators flee the state.
At least when the health care law was passed, it was done by a majority of Democrats and a president who were voted into office [the fact that they ignored the polls is another discussion] by the people.
The democratic system has been thwarted by those have a disdain for the process.

Politics of Wisconsin Labor Fight Spread to Washington
President Obama and his political rivals in Washington have jumped into the epic battle in Wisconsin between organized labor and the state’s newly elected Republican governor over the rights and benefits of state workers.
Efforts by Scott Walker, the state’s Republican governor, to slash collective-bargaining rights of public employees prompted days of protests at the state capitol by thousands of union workers, fueled and organized in part by Mr. Obama’s own political apparatus in Washington.
Even as Democratic lawmakers in Wisconsin fled their own state in an attempt to stall a vote in the Republican-controlled state senate, Mr. Obama decried the tactics of Mr. Walker as “an assault on unions.”
That prompted House Speaker John Boehner to rip into Mr. Obama, accusing him of having “unleashed the Democratic National Committee to spread disinformation and confusion in Wisconsin.”
Mr. Boehner, in a statement, praised Mr. Walker and other Republican governors for making the tough decisions to cut spending. And he chided the president for siding with the wrong side in the contentious Wisconsin debate.
“Rather than shouting down those in office who speak honestly about the challenges we face, the president and his advisers should lead. Until they do, they are not focusing on jobs, and they are not listening to the American people who put them in power.”

Come on, you're smarter than that. You pay a private, for-profit insurance company who has the freedom to charge you whatever the hell they want. You as a consumer, have the right to find cheaper insurance. At least according to free market capitalists who oppose a public option. You're barking up the wrong tree, pal.
Yes, health insurance companies make profits. Is there something wrong with that?
But for you to be able to understand why they would charge more in premiums when mandated by the new law to cover pre-existing conditions, remove lifetime caps and cover dependents up to 26 years of age, you'd have to understand how insurance works. That's something I doubt you do understand, since you think premiums are just arbitrarily charged.

And how is this different from Obama giving exemptions to big labor unions on the taxes they would otherwise have to pay on their "cadillac" healthcare plans? It's ok for the rich to have to pay those taxes on their plans, but not labor?
I think you'll find the hypocrisy spreads around to both sides. Which is why I'm sick of politics in this country.

Holy #######! Your insurance is crappy. You didn't have a choice of plans, like an HMO?
I have great insurance, I just have to shoulder some of the burden. I'm ok with that, by the way.
I ran the numbers, the HMO option was way too expensive, $376/month for my wife and me plus a $30 co-pay each time we go to the doctor and the hassle of having to get referrals, not being able to go out of network, etc.. I pay $143.30 for a $5k ded PPO plan, I get the first $2k from my employer, so I have to make up the other $3000 ded portion. Since we're having a kid this year, we'll definitely incur the $5k ded. So yeah, I pay $143.30/month for my plan + $250 month to pre pay (tax free) my portion of the deductible.
So I'm not terribly sympathetic to public sector union members crying about how they'll have to pay more for their health insurance and it's still less than $200/month with a low deductible [if any at all].
Since when did school teachers in Wisconsin teach in coal mines, anyway?

That's still not too shabby. It's more than I make and I have to pay about $350/month to cover my healthcare and $3000 family deductible. Even with this new law, they won't come close to that. I'm not crying at all for them. They still have jobs; many people don't.

Are they paid well enough? I am sure some people will demand they earn less and work 60 instead of 50 hours a week too, while educating their kids into productive members of society.
Last I checked, teachers didn't make that much mula, given the responsibility they are supposed to carry. I guess we as a society get what we pay for.
Should they have a right to fair wages and benefits? Why not? And if its a public tax-funded issue, then fight for school system privatization and good luck with teaching standards.

It's funny coming from a guy (Ried) who used to be anti-immigration and made impassioned speeches against "anchor-babies" and the lot is now bringing this forward.
I do break with my fellow conservatives on this one and actually do support the DREAM Act. I hope it passes.

My wife got her text message tonight, she logged on and found out she has a Green Card on the way!

My wife got a text on 11/3 saying an RFE was sent on 11/2. We got it in the mail on 11/8, found out she didn't sign/date the G325A. I printed out a new copy, she signed and dated it and I sent it back the same day. Looking back, I should have paid to do Express Mail. It's been 7 days, still no update. Her EAD/AP haven't been updated sine 10/14 and 9/21 respectively. I just hope the GC gets approved soon.
Whew, we got a touch and they are reviewing the RFE we sent back. I'm wondering why they're dragging their feet on the EAD and AP. It seems strange that the AOS is moving along much faster.

Probably the same reason that my wife's I-129F showed it was still in the initial review stages even after the visa was granted.
