Instead of 1040, you may want to send Tax Transcripts. They are easy to obtain from the IRS website.

You may also want to send Bank Statements and/or utility bills. I don't think you need to send Drivers License for any reason.

    Hi Saljoy.

My wife is applying based on 5 year rule. she arrived her in the US as a F2A immigrant, not a fiancee visa.

do you think a bank statement is necessary ?

    Send what the checklist says.

The new Document checklist says that you only send photos if you reside outside the US.

My application was before this new revision (11/21/2016N) came out so I sent 2 pictures.  I saw those pictures in my file on the day of the interview.  I think that was how my interviewer recognized me in the waiting room.

My Naturalization Certificate had the picture that was taken of me during my biometrics; if I knew it will be on my certificate I would have gone for a hair and make up session.   :-)  :-)  :-)

Good luck to you!  Kaya nyo yan.

    Hi M8cl..

    Yes..kaya natin to!!!

Exactly its states in the new docs checklist list that photos is needed only if applicant is residing outside the US.

When i process mine last 2015 i did include the photos?

Anyone submitted the application this 2017 without photos and no issues?

Hello, everyone. I am starting the N-400 2017 Filers thread. I will be mailing my application later in March 2017. Can't to start this journey with you all.

    Hi Sunshinestate2013.

Working on my wife's N400 based on the 5 year rule. question for you on the documents needed to submitted together with the application.

All i need to submit is the photocopy of the greencard and payment right. Since shes living here in the US no photos are required.

    is that correct?

  5. My wife will apply for naturalization based on the 5 year rule.  Working on the documents we needed to submit together with the application.

I came upon the document check list in the USCIS website, and it looks like what's needed to be submitted together with the application is only the photocopy of the green card and payment.

Since she’s living her in the US no photos are required.  Am I right?

But I’m planning to include these other documents as well.

    Form N-400 (Application)

    Form G-1145 (e-notification)

    Form g-1450 (Authorization Credit Card)

    Photocopy of Driver License

    Marriage Certificate

Form 1040 ( She’s unemployed buy she’s on my tax report)

Do you think these is all whats needed? any response is much appreciated. Thank you.

  6. New citizen here  . Ceremony was last Thursday at the Irving Texas Field Office. Schedule was supposed to be @ 8:30, but they started the check in process around 8:45 which took about 45 minutes. The ceremony itself was about the same time, so i was out there before 11am. , and no table for passport processing only for the voter registration. Citizenship is finally done for me and my son. For all the December filers who still in process hang tight and good luck!

    Next step passport application.

  8. UPDATE:

It's been a week since i had my interview. went online this morning to check for updates and............"Oath Ceremony Notice Was Mailed"..Wohooooo!!

  9. Had my interview this morning. I passed but waited forever to be called and then again to get my oath letter. The IO was very nice. Sworn me in as soon as we walked in his office, went through my N-400 made notes about my speeding ticket but didn't asked for any documents. My questions were How old do citizens have to be to vote, there are four amendments to the constitution about who can vote. Describe one of them, if the president can no longer serve, who becomes the president, who is in charge of the executive branch, during the cold war, what was the main concern of the US and what is one right or freedom from the first amendment. To read was what state has more people and to write California have more people. Now to wait until April 11 and become a citizen! Thank you all for your help!!

    yahoo..congrats!

  10. What civics questions were you asked?

    These are the civic questions.

    1. Who is incharge of the executive branch

    2. How many senators are there

    3. There are four amendments to the constitution about who can vote. describe one of them

    4. What are the two rights of everyone living in the US

    5. What is one reason colonist came to america.

    6. name one right only for the US Citizen.

  11. Just finish with my interview today in the Irving, Texas site.. " Congratulations! Your application is recommended for approval". IO told me to wait for the Oath Taking Letter in three weeks time.

Interview is short. The whole process just took me 20 minutes. Civic test is easy if you are prepared for it. What caught me off guard after i was sworn in she immediately ask me " why do you mean by the Oath of allegiance".

i think i said " You swear to be loyal and obey the laws of the united states." She said good answer. :-)

  12. I had my interview today at Federal Plaza building in NYC and passed!!!

My interview was scheduled a 10.55. I got called at 11.15 into a tiny room. They took my oath and continued with the test.

    Questions asked:

    *What happened on September 11th?

    * What is the name of the national anthem?

    * What ocean is located on the West side?

    * Who wrote the constitution?

    * Age to vote?

don't remembe the last one =( but I responded correctly.

After that she continued checking my file and I had to answer all the questions.

I brought my taxes from the past 5yrs, birth certifcates from my kids, marriage certificate, green card and my 2 passports and she did check them to verify that the info from my trips was correct. Passport and GC were the only documents she checked.

That was it. Very easy, I was out in 15 minutes.

She told me I passed the test/interview and have to wait for a letter with the date of my oath ceremony. According to her they have ceremonies every week =)

    I hope this info helps

    Good luck ppl!!

    Congrats Vi!!

  13. Had my interview and oath ceremony today and received my naturalization certificate.

I was scheduled for 9 am at Denver. Got there at 8:40 and went through security where they made me remove my belt, shoes, wallet, fitness tracker etc and scanned them through. Waited until 9:05 and they called my name.

He started with the civics and language tests and here are the questions :

    1) What does the declaration of independence do?

    2) Name one branch of government?

    3) Name 2 US holidays?

    4) What does the judiciary do?

    5) Who was the first president?

    6) How long is a senator elected for?

I was chewing gum and while on the third question, he noticed that and said I can't do that and got up, brought the trash can to me and asked me to spit it out. I did and said sorry.

Got all of that right and he asked me to read "When is Columbus day?" and then write "Columbus day is in October".

After that, made me stand up and do the oath and then started with the yes/no questions. All of them were straight forward. He asked me if I was over 26 when I got my green card and I said yes and he didn't ask anything further. This was about the SS registration, I guess. I'm over 36 as well.

While he was signing and stamping some papers, he asked about my family and talked about a state school that we(Interviewer and I) both went to. Once he was done stamping, he gave me a paper asked me to read and sign it and said he was recommending me for approval. He also gave me the oath letter for 1:30 in the afternoon.

The whole interview took exactly 9 minutes and he never asked for any document other than my passport and green card. I had a huge binder full of stuff.

We went out had some food and went to friend's house nearby and went back at 1:30 for the oath ceremony. Total of 41 people and it went fast. Probably took 40 minutes. They took our oath letter(filled out) and green card and after the ceremony gave us the naturalization certificate.

I will apply for my passport tomorrow.

    So that's it.

Thanks to every one who contributed to this thread and others here on the forum who shared valuable info that made this process so much easier. Those who are still waiting, I hope everything goes as smooth as it possibly could and you will all get there soon. I will be checking this thread to see how everyone is doing and if any one has any questions or me, feel free to ask and I will try my best to answer them.

    Yoohoo..Congrats!

  14. Just got back from Buffalo. Application.....drum roll please...approved!!!

The IO was super chatty and friendly. My lawyer jumped in right away and said that we wanted to add an amendment to my application as I had a few traffic fines. The IO asked about those...what type of fines or if I had every been arrested but didn't want to see any paperwork that I had. He asked for my passport, green card and drivers license. Asked about my time in and out of the US and why I worked for a Canadian company. My answer was that the county I live in would not offer the same kind of salary that I am making now. He asked if I was currently pursuing a job in the US while nodding his head up and down. He also told me that he used to date a girl from the town that I live in. He asked if I knew the family.

He gave me a bit of background information about himself and informed me that he used to work in the Cleveland office and told me that they had a high rate of fraudulent applications going thru there. I thought that was an interesting fact

Overall, super easy.Got my first 6 questions right

    1. What are 2 holidays that we celebrate

    2. Who was the first president

    3. Who is the president right now

    4. Who is the governor of NY State

    5. What date do you have to file your taxes by

    6. Name one war that occurred during the 1900's

Then I had to write out: President's day is in the month of February.

After that we went through my application, Once I was finished all of that, he informed me that off the record I was approved and to expect my oath letter to arrive within 30 days.

Whew so glad to be done!!

    Congrats!!!

  15. If you are married or divorced, take the marriage and/or divorce certificates with you.

If you have children, take their birth certificates.

This isn't required under the 5 year rule, but if you get a stubborn interviewer, it's better to have the documents with you than to argue.

The same goes for tax returns or transcripts... very few 5 year applicants are asked for them, but if you have time to get them ready, take them with you.

If you can't get some of these, it shouldn't be a problem; what you have is more than enough... they'll ask for the GC, passport, appointment letter. They may ask for the birth certificate for name verification. In one case I read about they asked for the social security card, so take that just in case.

Finally, if you got your GC through marriage, remember that while you don't have to prove that you are currently in a valid marriage (under the 5 year rule) you may be asked to prove that you were in such a marriage when you got your GC and removed conditions. This is not common, but some 5 year applicants are asked marriage questions. Just like some people who got their GCs through employment are asked to explain why they left their employer so soon after becoming permanent residents.

I have everything what you just said

    Thanks Jimmy!

  16. Approved! Just have to wait for the oath ceremony notice, no same days in Cleveland. (And I'm actually back at work, they let me just go to the interview without charging me any PTO.)

Interview was very quick, I gave the IO a new sheet of trips outside the US including one I made to visit my parents at Christmas. 6/6 on the civics test. They wanted my green card, driver's license, and passport, and they did read through the proofs of payment for my traffic tickets but she probably would have been just fine without them. She didn't ask for my marriage certificate or even for my tax transcripts. No troubles at all.

    Hooray..Congrats!
