    You will need your SSN before you can start working as most job applications/employers need that to hire you. I still haven't received either. It's frustrating to still be waiting. Thankfully, I have a SSN at least from my prior visa so I'm waiting for the local office to send me an updated 'unrestricted' card. No sign of welcome letter or GC yet.
