I met Juan in February of 2005 in
Guadalajara, Mexico while I was there as a student. I studied at CEPE- Centro de Estudios Para Extranjeros in association with the University of Guadalajara. We dated until the end of my trip and I returned home in April
of 2005.
Juan and I continued our relationship and kept in touch through e- mails, telephone, and video calls. I returned for a vist to Mexico in June of 2005 for a week. Juan and I took a vacation together and decided that we were going to try to continue a long distance relationship. Juan then made
an appointment to obtain a tourist visa so that he could visit Minnesota and meet my family. Unfortuanlaty, he was denied.
Feeling a sense of desperation, he decided to do whatever it took to come and see me. In August of 2005, Juan attempted to cross the border illegaly and was returned to Mexico. A few days later, he attempted to cross again and was successful.
He arrived at my house about a week later and stayed
with me and my parents.
While in the United states he obtained a fake social security card and got a job. We decided that upon complition of my studies, we would return to Mexico so that we could get married and apply for immigration papers in the correct manner.
I graduated from Minnesota State University- Mankato in August of 2006 and in September of 2006 we returned
to Mexico. We found an apartment in Guadalajara and lived there together from October 2006 until July of 2007. We both worked and lived happily together and then on May 19th of 2007 we got married. We had a small civil ceremony but we plan to have a religious ceremony in a few years when we are more finacailly stable.
Then I began to have a difficult time living in Mexico. I missed my family, friends, and style of living. We decided it would be best that I return and start to apply for Juan's green card. It is also a better place to raise a family.
We continue to communicate through e- mails, telephone, and video calls. I go visit him in Mexico as often as I can, but we are so sick of waiting. Why are we being punished for doing this the proper way? I am sure so many of you feel my pain. Please feel free to share.
