Thanks for the answers...let me offer more clarity. By "official" I mean recognized by the government, whether Kenyan or US. Both weddings would be after the visa is granted. I just worry that if we have an official wedding in Kenya even after the visa is issued then Uncle Sam will raise a stink about the visa not being a K3 even though we are still officially getting married in the US...after the Kenyan wedding. Hopefully this explanation makes better sense.

There is an advantage to us officially marrying in my fiancee's country of Kenya; however, we have applied for a K-1 which requires an official wedding in the US. Is it going to cause problems if we have two official weddings, one in Kenya and one in the US?
Do I need a I-766 and K1 for a SS card?

Hello All,
My fiancee went to the local Social Security office with I-94 showing her K1 status. They refused her the issuance of the SSN card because: "K-1 spouse requited an I-766/I-688 as well for issuance of SSN card." Not sure I quite understand if one is really needed as the SSA-POM Section RM 00203.500 states: "The following sections list nonimigrants, by alien class of admission codes, who are authorized to work in the US without specific authorization from DHS. The person's I-94 will not have the DHS employment authorization stamp and the alien will generally not have an EAD."
Do we need and I-766 or not?
Thanks,
Kenneth
