i would rethink that 30 day holiday hold, really.
USPS does NOT forward USCIS postal mail, at all. There's a thing on the outside of the envelope, instructing the postman specifically to NOT FORWARD.
A holiday hold, OTOH, is different.
How close are you, do you think, to approval ?
I think I'm about 2 or 4 weeks of being approved, unless VSC slows down pre Holidays.
Mail on hold would be great, but I will be on the other side of the country so unless I'm missing something, I don't see how that helps me.
Would a UPS mail box address work? As new address I mean, as they are regular street addresses.
Otherwise, is that a problem to file 2 AR-11 close to each other? I'm moving to San Fran, no idea how long it will take us to find a new place to live.. :/

First, No the USCIS wll not allow the USPS to forward any of their mailings. Second, you will need to file the AR-11 on-line and also to indicate that you have a pending case. Third, you will also have to notify the USCIS of the USC sponsor's move using the I-865 form. You could try a vacation hold, but that would require you to pick the mail up within 30 days after the move at the post office at the old address.
I would wait until you actually move and file change of address forms. If the USCIS does not get the address changed and the mail is returned, you will get an e-mail notice and can call them to have it mailed to the correct address. IF everything else is complete and you are just waiting on the card itself, I would do the address change within 10 days after the move. You can discuss this with your local postoffice--maybe you can put a vacation hold on your mail at the old address and your friend can pick-up the mail after 28 days and send it to you at the new address.
Good luck,
Dave
Thank you
Our mail will be forwarded in our new state so putting the mail on hold and have someone pick it up won't work.
I guess I will have to change my address twice, first using a friend's to get the green card and a second change when I will get my new home address.

As the title suggests, I will be moving cross country pretty soon, back to the West Coast.
I do not have a new address yet, so I'm a bit worried about what to do regarding my 10 year green card that should hopefully be approved soon.
My first question would be about mail forwarding:
- we will forward our mail to a friend, would that also work for the mail containing the green card? Can government mail be forwarded like any other mail or not?
If yes, then problem solved and I will let it ride out in VSC.
If not, should I just file an AR11 with a friend's address and hope that my file gets sent back to CSC before VSC starts on my I-751?
Any other suggestions?
Talk about bad timing grrr
Thank you for your help

Hello, for your options or lack thereof in the USA, you should ask a good lawyer specialized in immigration matters.
What is the status of your daughter, is she a permanent resident in the US?
Should you need to go back to Belgium, you can request a visa for your granddaughter, some information can be found here : https://dofi.ibz.be/sites/dvzoe/FR/Guidedesprocedures/Pages/Regroupement_familial_avec_un_Belge.aspx.
I hope everything works out for all of you!

Late March filer here, just sent the big envelope this morning and now for the waiting game again

You had to register as soon as you started living in the US
You need to find which consulate to register to, depending on where you live.
You will find relevant information here : http://www.diplobel.us/
You remain a Belgian citizen, I don't think it has something to do with keeping up with Id and such, though it's best to do so (which reminds me .. ).
Did you also notify the tax services in Belgium?
-
It would have been best to file with your married name, regardless on how it is in BE, but now that it's done it's a matter of costs I would say.
Waiting to file for I751 would probably be less costly.
As for Belgium, there will be no confusion, you need to register to the consulate etc and they will take it from there, all in your maiden name.
Only 2 things that have changed as far as Belgium is concerned is your residency and your marital status.
-
I think you might have misunderstood
The K1 visa grants you entry to the US as a non immigrant indeed, the visa is void as soon as you enter the US.
But the procedure also grants you the possibility to adjust your status to become a lawful permanent resident (conditional) after marrying your fiance.
As you are already planning to get married early and file everything within the 90 days after your arrival, you will be in compliance with the rules and do not have to worry about having to leave.
There are a few guides here on VJ that should help you clarify things
-
Have a nice calm talk with your fiance explaining all the risks involved with his idea
With a K1 visa you two would marry in the US, granted it would take a few more months.
A bit more patience shouldn't be too much to ask
-
Hmm the instructions must have changed, when I did it I only sent the checklist and one other document.
Everything else I kept to show at the interview.
Did you keep a copy of everything?
Not sure why you sent your diploma, to avoid what kind of confusions?
If they need anything they will let you know, it's not a red flag if something is missing or improperly signed.
What about your medical, is it done and do you have the results?

Lundberg organic brown basmati, their golden rose brown rice is also very good, have yet to try the others.
-
I did my k1 visa in october 2009, things might have change since then.
Be sure to read the instructions again and why not ask the embassy for clarifications.
You can translate it yourself if need be.
-
It can take at least 2 weeks before getting a police record.
The police record doesn't need to be in english, dutch is fine.
There is no quicker way than to request it where the embassy told you to request it.
I'm surprised your city hall said they could issue it.
-
okey im soooo confused , to where do i need send my mail to for my police certificate ?
is it to the new adress ?
To obtain a police certificate (from the Justice Ministry)
New address:
5-8 avenue de la Porte de Hal / Hallepoortlaan 5-8
1060 Brussel / Bruxelles
or is it to the adress givin on the paper ???
- Police certificate: There will be a letter in your packet 3 you can send, but if you don't want to wait for that, you can write your own letter to
Ministerie van Justitie/Ministère de la Justice
Strafregister/Casier Judiciaire
Waterloolaan/Boulevard de Waterloo 518
1000 Brussels
http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/index.php?ctry=Belgium&cty=Brussels
So there are no instructions in the packet 3 for the police certificate?
Hallepoortlaan seems to be the new address.
No idea what they will do if it ends up at the wrong address, you could try phoning them to be sure of the address.
-
I am so sorry Nina :/
Do all the administrative stuff to cut him lose and hang in there.
I am sure your little daughter will understand when the time comes to explain.
You might want to look into making sure he has no parental rights also, for her sake and yours.
-
Do you mean the marriage certificate?
If you have been married in the USA, you can ask for it at the clerk office of the state where the marriage was performed.
-
You might want to email the embassy to make sure the fee is still 263 euro as stated here http://dutch.belgium.usembassy.gov/tarieven.html
In the packet 3 documentation you have received there should be specific instructions on how to get your police record.
It's to be requested by letter to the Ministerie of Justicie.
I suggest you read this also http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/index.php?ctry=Belgium&cty=Brussels as it contains a lot of valuable informations.

I believe there is no record available in Belgium.
You could ask to your family doctor to go over it with you and make you a vaccinatiekaart
http://www.vlaanderen.be/servlet/Satellite?c=Solution_C&cid=1247814265130&pagename=Infolijn%2FView
When did you have your last vaccines?
I did all the required ones before the medical exam and for varicella I told the doctor that I had it and he wrote Varicella history in his papers.
-
Ca aiderait de savoir si c'est un AOS après un K1 ou autre.
Les vaccinations ont été faites durant l'examen médical de base ou par après en complément?
-
Do you need anymore immunizations maybe or were they all done back in Belgium?
I didn't send the form I-693 with my AOS package but my medical was still valid and I met all the immunizations requirements prior to coming to the USA.
-
An interview for what?
Phoning in America from America with an american number?
It would help if you gave more information and I'm not sure you are in the correct forum :/
-
You can write to the tax service or phone them as you still have time.
Did you do your taxes 2010 already in Belgium?
You're supposed to do your taxes 2011 prior to moving, I didn't know that and then they did the taxes for me as if I hadn't filed in time ..
That's why I'm suggesting you call them - I wrote them in February when I was already here, no answer, then found out I couldn't access Taxonweb anymore so I'm just trying to save you some hassles
As for the consulate you should email them to know all the documents they need as the model 8 form you will receive in Belgium is not going to be enough.
More info here : http://diplomatie.belgium.be/en/services/services_abroad/Inschrijving/ - that page can be found in french and dutch also.
-
You need to cancel your residency in Belgium and warn the tax services that you are now living abroad.
You also need to register at the nearest Belgian Consulate.
