  1. If memory serves me right it does not take into account Housing, which is an ever increasing percentage. I am no expert but this is why we see quite a few cases where people are on food stamps, medicaid etc. but comfortably meet the income needs The other reason is because of the figures they use, I know quite a few people who are self employed and their income is sort of fungible in that there are no end of expense they can deduct. I am not knocking btw, or if you are involved in renting property. And then of course there is quite a large under the table industry. The best paid person at your local Restaurant is probably the waitress, I assume it is a lot harder to hide tips now that most transactions are on a Card. A bar I occasionally frequent just charges the list price if you pay in cash and cash tips are very welcome.
  2. https://www.britishcornershop.co.uk/?i=336546 It is that time of year and I have been here long enough to let most things go, obviously not HP sauce and the odd jar of Branston, but somehow I am more inclined to stock up now, Christmas Pudding, Mince Pies etc, and some decent chocolate of course. Now the prices make me wince, probably because I am remembering prices from years ago. So the link is above to the one I use, is there anything other people feel the need to special order?
  3. You might have trouble finding a Civil Surgeon who will just do the Vaccination and not the full Medical, you need to be clear what you need as this is not usual.
  4. You said in your first post that you have not adopted the child but have guardianship.
  5. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/nov/26/remember-who-we-are-riots-race-and-the-end-of-the-irish-welcome “It’s sad it’s come to this,” said one man, a soft-spoken spectator in his 20s, not a rioter. “But the situation has got out of control.” He was referring not to the riot consuming central Dublin on Thursday night but to immigration, and a perception that foreigners – and especially asylum seekers – were driving a crime wave and worsening a housing crisis. “Their religion has no respect for women’s rights,” he added. “The men are dominant.” The police charged and the spectator fled, unable to elaborate about any affinity with Dutch voters who last week backed Geert Wilders’s anti-Islamic Freedom party, or with other election results across Europe, but there was little need. Amid the fumes and shouts and sirens blazed an uncomfortable truth. The Ireland that for so long had seemed to buck Europe’s anti-immigrant trend and offer a “thousand welcomes” to the foreigners who reshaped its economy, society and demography – the Ireland that seemed immune to xenophobia and demagoguery and backlash – was not so different after all.
  6. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/11/24/us/politics/china-migrants-us-border.html?login=smartlock&auth=login-smartlock Despite the distances involved and the difficulties of the journey, more than 24,000 Chinese citizens have been apprehended crossing into the United States from Mexico in the past year. That is more than in the preceding 10 years combined, according to government data. They typically fly into Ecuador, where they do not need a visa. Then, like hundreds of thousands of other migrants from Central and South America and more distant locations, they pay smugglers to guide their travel through the dangerous jungle between Colombia and Panama en route to the United States. Once there, they turn themselves in to border officials and many seek asylum. And most succeed, in turn fueling further attempts. Chinese citizens are more successful than people from other countries with their asylum claims in immigration court. And those who are not end up staying anyway because China usually will not take them back.
  7. Looks like New York is in for significant budget cuts, at least it is for a cause they demanded. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Od6pO2oe1l4
  8. Unless there is something truly weird these are usually pretty simple, there is not a lot to go through, not like proving up a marriage for example, you are the child, you have a spouse, I 864 is good not much else to say.
  9. You can file as soon as you enter the US with your immigrant visa. I see no harm in mentioning it at the interview if you want to.
  10. I assume there is nobody else to file anything for her and she is reliant on you obtaining US Permanent Residency. What do you mean by highlight her position? She either is or is not protected by CSPA and from what you said she is not.
  11. F3 means you are married so when you enter with your Immigrant Visa either you or your spouse, ideally both can file a I 130 to petition her to join you in the US, she will be in the F2b category, single adult child of a Permanent Resident.
  12. If you re happy to take the risk I am not going to second guess the situation, you seem to know the potential issue.
  13. It is really a question of how risk averse you are, most people will go the marriage route.
  14. You want to adjust status in the US, then you can file an I 485 once your PD for adjustment is current.
  15. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/nov/22/finland-to-close-all-but-one-russia-crossing-point-to-stop-asylum-seekers Finland has said it will close all but one crossing point on its border with Russia in an effort to halt a flow of asylum seekers to the Nordic nation, as Estonia accused Moscow of mounting “a hybrid attack operation” on Europe’s eastern border. The announcement on Wednesday came after weeks of tension on the 830-mile (1,330km) border across which Helsinki accuses Moscow of guiding refugees and migrants in an apparent act of revenge for the Nordic nation’s cooperation with the US. From midnight on Friday, said the Finnish prime minister, Petteri Orpo, the only open border crossing of Finland’s eight stations would be its northernmost at Raja-Jooseppi.
  16. https://www.uscis.gov/newsroom/news-releases/dhs-announces-family-reunification-parole-process-for-ecuador Certain nationals of Ecuador who are beneficiaries of an approved Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative may be eligible to be considered for parole under the new process. Qualifying beneficiaries must be outside the United States, meet all requirements, including screening and vetting and medical requirements, and must not have already received an immigrant visa.
  17. I just noticed and I have to work! Just wondered what other people indigenous persons are doing to celebrate.
  18. https://www.cnn.com/2023/09/12/politics/susanna-gibson-virginia-sex-acts/index.html I really do not care about her side gig. But you livestream on the Internet, and then claim invasion of privacy. How does that make any sense?

  20. https://www.cnn.com/2023/06/10/sport/brittney-griner-dallas-airport-harassment/index.html Brittney Griner, the WNBA star who was freed from Russia late last year after being wrongfully detained, was harassed Saturday by a man described as a social media “provocateur” at a Dallas airport. A source familiar with the incident told CNN that around 9:30 am CT, Griner was at the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport traveling with Phoenix Mercury teammates on their way to a game. Griner was confronted by the man who was yelling at her about “the Merchant of Death.” The confrontation got so heated that the man was tackled, and law enforcement was involved, according to the source. CNN has reached out to local law enforcement and the DFW airport about the incident. “The health and well-being of our players and staff are our top priority and we will always take every step within our power to protect player safety,” the statement said. “No one, regardless of identity, should ever fear for their safety. We will be coordinating with the WNBA on next steps,” it continued. Griner’s teammate, Brianna Turner, posted to Twitter on Saturday, saying, “Player safety while traveling should be at the forefront. People following with cameras saying wild remarks is never acceptable. Excessive harassment. Our team nervously huddled in a corner unsure how to move about. We demand better.” --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I think I would recognise Bob, but any other member of the WNBA? I thought they would be delighted somebody recognised them.
  21. I had not really thought about this other than being told when checking out at a Supermarket now is the time to enter your Coupons, what Coupons? I would assume they were overcharging up front to pay for the rebate so look for something else.
