    The permanent resident will have to remove conditions before their 2-year card expires, the "wedding anniversary" date will not really matter in this process (but evidence covering the duration of the marriage should still be sent). Full details here: ETA: If at all possible, it is not a bad idea to delay entry after the second wedding anniversary.

    Are you banned from visiting her in Canada? If not, you should consider alternate visits to each other. As you know, no entry is guaranteed for tourists, so it's on you two to demonstrate you are only visiting; 3-4 days a week, every week, looks like what it is, living part time with you.

    I want to add that as a foreigner, you have no real status and minimal protection until you are a permanent resident. There's no way I would have uprooted myself to be in such limbo with a K1. Failure to complete the adjustment of status is too common, and an absolute shame.

    I can't figure out if you sent your petition yet? Self-employed sponsors' income is calculated from the last tax year, so you might want to read the instructions very carefully, and discuss with your accountant. Depending on where your are in the process, 2023 tax return might be just right to show your income at the interview/adjust status (read the i-864 instructions for that).

    It doesn't need to be an emergency in Canada. You could win a cruise trip in the Caribbean... Even if you don't plan to use it, it's such an easy form to join to the rest and save you possible headaches/heartbreak later.

    These days, usually only one diplomatic mission per country is offering immigrant visa interviews. Are you sure they're available in Okinawa?

    You can print 6 pictures on a 4x6. Just need to cut them yourself after. Photo printers in store here do offer gloss finish. For higher quality prints I've used Nation Photo lab many times, but for such small pictures, it shouldn't be necessary.

    I think some sponsors will have to wait for the 40 quarters of work to be set, or strongly encourage citizenship, before contemplating a divorce that would lead directly to bankruptcy.

    I guess we're back to the affidavit of support not stating anything about 10 years, or 2k a month. So where does that come from?

    I don't doubt you have good legal counsel, but another good question for your lawyers would be why 99%+ (my own guess, it is probably more) of immigrant divorcé(e)s do not get this special support stipend?

    Where did they get the 10 years from though? Because it is 40 quarters of work (or other conditions, death, departure, etc.) Also, while your divorce agreement might stop after 10 years, that does not mean that the original affidavit of support would be over.

    @Darryl_F back to your original question, when is the 10 year support ending in your agreement/settlement? Were the lawyers able to decipher that part of the decision?

    She's your ex. She can move on with her professional career, or not. She'll decide that on her own. You can tell her she can do better, she can do whatever. In other words, do you want to lose energy, on top of money? If it bothers you to pay, pursue legal avenues. If not, just step out and live your life. She'll find her own new balance.

    If you gave her a quarter of a million... She's well above the poverty level. With your income, 2k a month seem inconsequential, I would just let it go. To go back to your first post on VJ, she really is a great accountant.

    My removal of conditions was easy, relatively fast, and uneventful. I would still delay entry. It is only a month away. You can take a nice vacation with the fees you won't have to pay. Your spouse has more time to say goodbye and prepare; you can even check skyscanner, the ITA matrix, or wherever you prefer, for great price of flights after August 9. A month is nothing!

    Does your state allow you to change your middle name when you marry?

    You would have to check with them, I am pretty sure that it is the same as during the enrolment period, minus the subsidies being applied directly to the cost. It has been a while since I looked into it, and others might have more input, but I think the "subsidy" is still done while you do your next tax return. If your wife is a permanent resident, she is most probably not eligible to a policy for visitors though.
