I am currently in F1 status and have a pending AOS application. We concurrently filed I-130 and I-485 in Jan 2023. When we filed, my spouse was an LPR. I-130 petition got approved in Feb 2024 and I responded to a RFE for medical around the same time. AOS has been actively reviewed since then. My spouse became a naturalized U.S. citizen in early Feb 2025. Since spouses have visas immediately available, we tried to upgrade our category from F2A to IR6.
I have chatted to several chat agents about it, and everyone gives conflicting and vague answers. The first few agents suggested me upload a cover letter with my spouses naturalization certificate to my account, I did it. Another agent suggested to actually send the same documents to NBC, I did it. Nothing happened. When my spouse chatted to EMMA, next agent created a service request, and my spouse got an email more than a month ago saying they upgraded the I-130 petition to a new category indicating he is a citizen now.
My question, does the pending I-485 get upgraded correspondingly? Is there a way to confirm that my pending application is now recognized by USCIS as being under the Immediate Relative category and being processed accordingly? I recently called a TIER 1 officer to ask about this. They just asked me to wait 60 days after uploading the documents, it has been 60 days and nothing has happened. I am worried that my application is just waiting for the F2A PD to be current, instead of being moved to a new category.
If anyone has gone through this process or knows about it, I would highly appreciate.
