Hi all,
I (29M) am planning to move to America with my partner. I've been looking into this and I've realised today that the checks required to immigrate to the US are much more stringent than those undertaken in the UK when it comes to something like a caution.
When I was 19 (over 10 years ago now) I was arrested and caught with marijuana and was cautioned. I've registered for my ACRO but have not gotten it back yet. I fully expect it to show this offense as "no-live trace" on the ACRO.
I've been looking online and have been seeing a lot of contradictory information about this. As far as I can tell this offense does not constitute a crime of "moral turpitude" but does fall under a separate drug related offence protocol which could mean instant refusal. However I’ve seen elsewhere people discuss an exemption for “marijuana less than 30g” for a reason this could be excused.
Does anyone have any experience in this or could offer advice? I plan on waiting for the ACRO to arrive before I contact a lawyer. Thanks.
