No I can't add her to my insurance because my employer would make me pay the entire premium which is quite expensive. Once established here she was going to get a job that offered her insurance and keep the Swedish benefits as well of course. She will maintain dual citizenship.

Yes I agree and will apply for Advance Parole somehow but need to know happens if it is denied or not approved in time and she leaves anyway. What happens after the AOS is considered abandoned?

She is also covered by travelers insurance in case of emergencies but they will not consider these tests an emergency

The health insurance plan was for her to work in the US getting health care but also maintain a residence in Sweden and use that health care as well.

Hi everyone! I need some advice on how you would handle this scenario: I'm the US citizen. My wife came here from Sweden on the K1 visa and we were married Sept 22nd, 2024. We applied for AOS which was received Dec 10th 2024. She has preexisting medical conditions that are getting worse that are causing her to worry and she wants to get tests as soon as possible. She does not have health insurance here in the US. In Sweden she gets practically free universal health care. She wants to return to Sweden ASAP to take tests and get treatments if possible. If we apply for Advance Parole, I have read that it can take many months and there is no guaranty that it would get approved anyway. It would be difficult for her to get a letter from her doctor stating the tests are an emergency for reasons I won't discuss here. My thoughts are to send the Advance Parole form with a letter explaining financial hardship not having health insurance in the US and wanting to seek treatment using the free universal health care in Sweden. Is there a way to expedite it? Maybe contact my Senator's office? If Advance Parole is denied or is taking too long and she needs to go to Sweden anyway, what are the ramifications? I know the AOS would be considered abandoned, but what would happen then? Would we file a different form since we are already married to start the process over? Would it be held against her? Are there other options I'm not realizing? Thanks in advance! Charlie

I tried to open a joint bank account with my wife and was not blocked because of her passport, but her lack of social security number or proof of residence. Any mail I brought showing she lived at my house was not good enough. They wanted a utility bill or phone bill which she couldn't get on because she didn't have a social security number! We are stuck in a circle. Now that she has her social security card we are going to try to open a joint account again.

Update: The employment card was made on January 15th and arrived January 17th! The I-485 form update: The website updated stating they received the response to the RFE on January 16th. The My Progress tab shows the case progress backtracked from step 4 Case Decision to the third step Attend interview if necessary. They also have another note saying on the case status tab "Response received on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. CST. We will review the evidence."

Thanks the SS card just arrived yesterday! The site also says the I-765 case is closed and the employment authorization card has been produced. I would imagine we will be getting that early next week.

Any idea on how the social security number issuance works? We checked the box on the I-765 form saying we would like a social security number to be issued. USCIS says we should get an employment card to be taken to any possible employers mailed to us in 1 to 2 weeks but does not mention when a social security number will be issued. Anyone have any experience with this part?

Thanks! They received our I-485 on Dec 10th and sent the RFE on Dec 20th.

The I-765 was approved on Dec 9th, 2 days after the biometrics appointment.

We mailed out our response to the RFE today. Fingers crossed they will be happy with the response and we have smooth sailing from now on! In the meantime my wife had her biometrics appointment on January 7th. After that, according to the USCIS website her I-765 was now approved! That only took 1 month! Also the progress on the I-485 jumped from step 2 biometrics, skipped over step 3 that an interview might be needed and now is on step 4 saying USCIS is actively reviewing the case. This seems very fast!

Hi Lee, I was just over sharing hoping that this form was going to breeze through so I gave them multiple sources so they would not question anything. Unfortunately that didn't work out for me since I still got the RFE but I'm pretty sure the error on household size is really causing a lot of this now that I keep looking at it. I'm sure your birth certificate is fine to prove citizenship. I added my retirement and bank balances to go "above and beyond" not needing them to be over the 125% poverty level but again hoping it would keep them happy and not want more info delaying the process. The I-864 form version I filled out said that section was "optional" so I did it. The newest version specifically says if you meet the requirement on income don't fill out section 7 and go right to section 8. I hope this helps!
