Hi everyone,
I'm looking to file joint taxes for the first time with my spouse, who’s a foreign national. I need to apply for an ITIN for her as she doesn’t have a Social Security number yet. I wanted to ask the community for advice on a few points I’m not entirely clear about:
Applying for an ITIN: Has anyone here recently gone through the process of filing jointly while applying for an ITIN for their spouse? I’m curious about the specific forms you needed and any documents that helped streamline things.
Certified Passport in Spanish: Since my spouse’s passport is in Spanish, will the IRS accept a certified copy in its original language? Or do I need to have it translated as part of the ITIN application?
Any advice or tips from people who’ve been through this process recently would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences!
