Do they backdate the intervening period?

Hey folks, Read some of the Canuck EI Thread prior to posting this, it did not have my specific answer. I am relocating to the US on a K1 visa in October. Unrelated to this, I was laid off at my job as of September 5th and will be applying for EI. Under my circumstances, can I expect continuation of EI after relocation? I am not sure how things have changed since the last post in that thread as of 2022 and I am seeking some guidance on how to navigate this issue. Thanks in advance.

Hey folks, So I got laid off for the end of this week. I am planning to move in October on a K1 visa. Will I qualify for continuity of my EI if I am still planning to seek work and be eligible? Is it still the same department in 2025 or has the process changed? Looking for some guidance.

I opened a joint account while I was visiting, but I was physically present and provided them with my passport and international drivers license. It is possible to do, yes.

Our case just went to DOS, we have our initial petition number but not the new one from the Consulate yet as our case is just now going to the NVC. Regarding your documentation, will you send photocopies of your petitioners documents instead of originals / are those sufficient for booking your interview? One thing I am confused about is whether or not we need to present the originals of our petitioners documents (social security, birth certificate, ID/ licences / Passports, etc) in any form at the interview, or if good photocopies are sufficient.

So for clarity, you waited two weeks when your case went to NVC, messaged NVC via inquiry and received your embassy code, used that to gather your paperwork and email the embassy? Re/ police report, I already did one at the fingerprint place where I told them it was for immigration. I will have to check on that.

That is awesome. As a fellow Canadian, can you expand on what you did? It would benefit me and help me understand what to expect. A lot of mystification.

Essentially, yes. I wonder what will happen when the issue is resolved - do we get prioritized because of the issue or...? I kind of doubt it but it would be nice.

I was not aware of this policy, I may have missed it when reading through if I was the one in question to violate it. If you could let me know where to read up on, I will do so.

I think it is very normal to experience grief at parting. You might consider trying to recognize it as a testament to the strength of your desire to be TOGETHER as opposed to an obstacle. You're both feeling it because it messes up your routines and comforts. It's a natural consequence of the lifestyle and relationship you have chosen. Try to pivot your thinking a little here and view your visits as contained events. Know they are temporary now, but will cease to be temporary in the future. Express these feelings openly and discuss with your partner. Secondarily - make plans. Make a digital date night and find activities you can do together over discord. Livestream to each other, watch movies synchronously, play games together or apart but simultaneously. Tabletop Simulator is great for this, you could even involve mutual friends. It sucks to be apart but there is a lot you can do to feel as close together as possible while we all wait this out.

That may be true, but they let go of the contractors last year. From what I read it was 50 postions and we aren't sure that anyone who was let go touched cases. I think we should watch closely and see what happens.

We each have a date after which we can contact them, it can be found on the website by entering the case number that came on your NOA1. I believe it is roughly 1 year from date of the NOA1.

I see four total approved as of today. lets hope!

Ok -first of all I did not know I could opt out. I will surely be doing that. Second of all, I got one of those APPROVED emails as well and flipped my lid for a moment. That one is an issue.
