    Thanks for the response! From my understanding there is no shortcut to work while you wait for the IR-1. I simply just have to apply for the IR-1 and then the ability to work comes from that approval.

    Hi, I'm trying to figure out if I can apply for a IR-1 Visa and EAD (work authorization) at the same time and how to go about that. I currently work as a commercial pilot in Nairobi and several airlines in the US have interest in hiring me but they do not sponsor visas. They would however employ me immediately if I have work authorization while waiting for my IR-1 Visa. Is this possible? I have been married to a US Citizen for 5 years and we currently live in Nairobi. What's the best way to go about this?
