so my brother-in-law (brother of my boyfriend) lives and works in the US as a doctor (for 4 or 5 years now, I think), with a J1 visa. He has an American girlfriend; they also got a child together last year. He wants to bring his mother to the US as well. He and his girlfriend are already thinking about getting married. But he told me that this could have disadvantages for his job at the moment because he would then fall into a different visa category and it would also take longer to get a green card, something like that... His mother's main job is supposed to look after the child, so maybe through an Au-Pair visa? But we are looking for a longterm solution, so immigrant visa. We are from Germany, to give some more information.
So my questions are:
- What's the best visa option in this case?
- How much waiting time should we expect?
- Does it help and speed up the process to hire an immigration lawyer?
