  1. "I plan to submit my US citizenship application (N-400) on **July 10, 2025**, in Seattle. However, I will be traveling outside the US (to China) for ** May, and June 2025**, returning back to Seattle just before filing. 1. Does this trip break the **"90-day state residency requirement"** (living in WA for 3 months before applying)? Should I delay my application until after staying 3 months back in Seattle? Thanks!"
  2. I plan to apply for U.S. citizenship this coming summer and hope to become a citizen by the end of this year. My 11-year-old child currently lives in China. He is a Chinese citizen and holds a U.S. green card. We do not intend to move him to the U.S. for the next 15 years. However, if he decides to come to the U.S. in the future—for example, when he is 25 years old—will he automatically consider a U.S. citizen as well because his mother (me) became a citizen while he was a green card holder at the age of 11 ? To meet above requirements, do I need to bring him to U.S during the time when I processed my citizenship? To clarify, I’ve heard that a green card holder child automatically becomes a U.S. citizen when their parent naturalizes. My question is: is about whether my child needs to be physically present in the U.S. during the parent’s naturalization process to qualify for his future automatically citizenship. Thank you very much.
  3. Dear friend, I received my green card on October 8, 2020. As of June 2024, I have lived in the U.S. for over 30 months within the first 4 years, However, in the last year of the 5-year period, I took two business trips, each lasting 5 months, totaling 10 months abroad within a single year. While I meet the 5-year green card requirement, the 30-month residency threshold, and each individual trip during the 5 years was less than 6 months, I am concerned because the combined duration of the last two trips exceeds 10 months in A YEAR. I’ve heard that there may be a rule about not exceeding 6 months abroad within a year, but I’m unsure. Since I haven’t taken the second trip yet, I still have the opportunity to adjust my plans to avoid potential issues. Can I still apply for naturalization under these circumstances, or should I reconsider my travel plans to ensure compliance? I meet the general residency requirement for naturalization. 5 years+30 months+ each trip less than 6 month my problem is : I took two trips with each one is 5 month in the last 12 month. ( still not take the second trip yet ) Thank you for your guidance! Best regards,
  4. Hello everyone, my situation is that I got my green card on October 8, 2020, and I plan to apply for citizenship on July 10, 2025. Between October 8, 2020 and June 2024, I lived in the United States almost all the time, so I have already far met the 30-month requirement during this period ; however, in the last year of the 5th year , after June 8, 2024, I lived in China for 5 consecutive months for one trip ; then I came back to the U.S to stay two months from November, and now I want to go back to China again for another 5 month’s trip ; that is, I will in China for nearly 10 months during the last 12 month , although each trip was less than 6 months, will I still be eligible for naturalization in July this year ? Shortly , I meet “ 5 years green card + 30 month total in U.S + each trip is less than 6 month “ , but “ the last 2 trips , total 10 month in China in the the last 12 month” might be a problem Thank you so much. really appreciate
  5. Dear friends I have lived in the same house with my U.S citizen spouse for 4 years as well,( 2 years boyfriend + 2 years husband), so we just married 2 years. And My green card is 4 years too. I saw this : USCIS considers an applicant to “live in marital union” with his or her citizen spouse if the applicant and the citizen actually reside together. so can I file my citizenship now ? Because although I didn’t married him for 3 years so far , but we did reside together for 3 years. thank you
  6. I don’t have any single trip longer than 6 months ; and I did file taxes each year.
  7. My green card started on October 8, 2020, and I can submit my citizenship application on July 8, 2025. As of July 8, I have already lived in United Stated for 30 months. However, because I traveled a lot in 2014, I did not meet the requirement of living in United stated for 6 months in the last year by July 8. That is, as of July 8, I have only lived for 4 months. I believe that by the day of the interview, I will have lived in enough for 6 months. So my question is, can I still submit my application on July 8? Or do I have to wait until September 8? Thank you so much I am sorry , it is 2024
  8. Thank you. Can I file it physically in the Us and then go to travel ?
  9. Hello, I am planning to file N-400 online. I will be qualified to file it at July 15 ,2025. That is the time I will be completed the 5-year residence requirement including 30 months continuous residence. However, since I will be traveling I outside of the county from April 2025. Which means I will be in china in July,2025. Do I must come back to United State land to file it at July,2025? Should I be physically in United States when I file it ? or Can I E- file it on-line even when I am in china and come back for interview ? thank you so much.
  10. Hello, I am planning to file N-400 online. I almost completed the 5-year residence requirement including 30 months continuous residence. I have lived in my current home in Seattle for 4.5 years now. In April 2025 I will go back to my home country for a 3 month vacation and came back to start to filling the paper in July when I am qualified. Since I will be exactly outside of the country 90 days before filling , do that means I won’t be qualified for the 90 days rule. Does this 90 days in United State mean the time that immediately/ exactly before filling date ? thank you.
  11. Thank you for your reply. I am not worrying about my continuous residence. What I am worried about is I might don’t meet the 3 month residency before filing the application because I will be in China for that 5 month before I filing the applications.
  12. Do I need to Physically present in the U.S. for 3 month from April 2025- June,2025,if I want to file my application at July,2025?
  13. Thank you.So I do need to come back at April,2025 if I want to file the application at July, right?
  14. my question is about the 3 month residecy . thank you
  15. Dear friends I will be eligible to apply for U.S citizenship in July 2025 (5 years to apply on my own). I have been living in Seattle, Washington since 2021. However, I will reside in China for five consecutive months from February to July 2025, while still maintaining my address in Seattle. I meet all the requirements except for this one: the 3-month residency requirement. My confusion is as follows: Since I plan to apply for citizenship in July 2025, does the 3-month residency mean that I must to reside back in Seattle physically in June, May, and April 2025? Or rather, because I have been living in Seattle since 2021, even if I am not in Seattle from February 2025 to June 2025, I still meet the 3-month residency requirement. So my question is the 3-month residency should be right before the moment I filling the application paperwork? Thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate it. so it helps me to decied that : (1) Should I come back at april,2025 to meet the 3 month residency so I can apply the citizenship at July,2025 or (2) I can stay in china all the way until June,2025 and come back to seattle and still be eligible to fill the applicaton at July,2025 Thank you again.
  16. I see. Thank you so much. So I have to wait I married with my spouse for 3 years. Appreciate it.
  17. so I am confused now , because I reside together more than 3 years , but I only married for 2 years. I don’t know am I eligible or not. If I try to apply being citizen anyway and if I get rejected, will it affect to apply next time. Thank you
  18. This is what I found out : USCIS considers an applicant to “live in marital union” with his or her citizen spouse if the applicant and the citizen actually reside together.
  19. Thank you. From what I understand from the website, They didn’t say , marriage 3 years ; they require marital union 3 years , and they consider “reside together “as marital union.
  20. Hello every one I meet all requirements for being citizen through marriage except this one : I only have been only married with him for 2 years. however, I live with him more than 3 years so far. I have my green card for 4 year so far ; because I reside together with my U.S citizen spouse for more than 3 years. So I don’t am i eligible or not. In a words , our marriage is only 2 years long . But we live together more than 3 years. and my green card is almost about 4 years now , issue by October 2020. am I still qualified to be citizen through marriage ? my confused point is : Do i have to legal married him for 3 years ? Or living together more than 3 years is eligible too ? thank you for help.
