  1. Yes, the main target of rhetoric is illegal immigration, with the talk of mass deportations. However, with Stephen Miller being named Deputy Chief of Staff overseeing immigration in his portfolio, there is some word that legal immigration (including what he terms "chain migration", or family-based immigration) is potentially at risk for being reduced or changed (sound like especially for those wishing to bring siblings and parents to US), as well as limitations like the Muslim travel ban, HB-1 visa changes, etc. Trump Allies Draw Up Plans Targeting Legal Immigration - WSJ
  2. I guess it's too early to know, but does anyone have any news or idea about what types of changes to expect to spousal and family immigration from the upcoming Trump administration? I am concerned that the rhetoric is very anti-immigrant and could negatively impact even legal immigration, or at the least slow down processing times. Anyone around during the last administration who has insights?
  3. Hi, wondering if you have had any updates on your IL?
  4. Good to know, it sounds like you are the earliest DQ date of those on here...keep us posted and hope you hear back soon!
  5. Thanks Bokee, hopefully we can find more people in the same situation to get more info.
  6. Ok that is great news to hear, we had emailed the embassy with no reply but it's good to know they offer estimates and that it is not as long as many other African embassies. I think there are relatively few petitions compared to other countries, and I didn't find many DRC applicants here on VJ (maybe because it's also an English-language forum).
  7. Good to hear from someone else in the same situation. I will certainly keep you updated. Good luck to you.
  8. Yes we got our I-130 approval in the online portal before getting it in the mail a couple of days after. Sounds like you are approved.
  9. That is very frustrating, thank you for sharing your experience. Sounds like every embassy is different and priorities change frequently.
  10. Thanks, but we are applying for a CR1/IR1 spousal visa - I was trying to determine the wait time for interview scheduling based on the NIV data available. I don't think we qualify for any expedited processing sadly.
  11. I gave the example of student visas because currently that is the longest NIV wait times listed for our embassy, even longer than B1/B2. It seems all random...
  12. That makes sense, many thanks appleblossom! The issue for us was there is next to no data on our country (DR Congo) here on VJ for CR1/IR1 so I am trying to read the tea leaves...
  13. Hello all, apologies if this answer is somewhere out there on another thread but I couldn't find it. Does anyone know how the wait times compare, in general, between scheduling interviews for nonimmigrant visas and immigrant visas at a given embassy/consulate? Since the Dept of State gives info on nonimmigrant visa interview wait times, is it reasonable to extrapolate that these timelines are longer than immigrant visa scheduling wait times? Or are they totally separate? For example, if nonimmigrant visas for student exchange are listed as a 5 month wait time, surely immigrant visas are processed at a higher priority (ie, more quickly)? (Also, why can't they just provide similar information for immigrant visa applicants )
  14. Hello, anyone aware of average wait times from DQ to interview for Kinshasa, DRC? We are CR1 category with DQ date of May 24, 2024. We're aware it may be quite long.
  15. Any update on your status? What was the wait time from being documentarily qualified to getting the interview in Kinshasa?
