  1. so as a follow up to those who participated in my query and for those who might want to search for this topic in the future to help inspire them, glad to report that my visa was finally issued after doing the second medical last week & sending back my passport. This is 6months after my interview.
indeed was beyond exhausting and filled with anxiety but glad it finally reached a positive outcome.
just surround yourself with some positive affirmations while you wait.. it helps to bear the stress.

This gives me hope.  We have been in refused status with a 221(g) since March 2024.  My fiance had to take random drug tests as a result.  But on 10/25/24 we received a notice that his passport was being released and to refer to the 221g which says nothing other than Medical Documents must be submitted.  After each of his exams, IOM submits the documentation.  He went to IOM today because they called him for a random drug test.  Upon appearing he told them that his passport had been returned but he had not picked it up from DHL yet.  The IOM doctor advised him to go pick up the passport and see if a letter accompanied it and then return.  We are confused as to what is happening here.

Im so sorry to hear about your ordeal.. it’s frightening and heartbreaking going through the process indeed.
we have no option but to wait it out and keep hoping there is a movement until the positive end .. not sure bout the random drug tests perhaps its routine for the region .. hopefully it will be fine in the end .. hang in there

Unfortunately it’s just continuing to wait. They do not contact you after every status change. They will only reach out if they need something like a document or if they need you to redo your medical etc.

Again can’t thank you enough for providing your insight. 6 long months after interview I am beyond frustrated. Thank you

Hi, did you have an RFE or a reason for the 221g? Maybe they were waiting for you to send something and it's gone back to USCIS? Hope you get to the bottom of it!

    Thank you for your response.
No, there was no request for further information on the 221g. There also hasn’t been a request sent since April 2024.
I had gotten a senator to inquire 2months ago and only got a generic response. I do not know if they’ve sent it back to uscis, as I have no experience with this situation

Well it's been over 60 days. The 22nd will be 3 months. But im worried about getting stuck at "ready" stage also. Did they keep your passport the day of interview? How did your interview go?

Every applicant is unique.. the guy before me on the interview day was approved in July .. and mine changed to ready a day before his.. we can never really know what is going on but endless worries ..

interview generally went well.. 221g letter was already written by the CO before I stepped to the glass.. yes passport was kept but I requested for it after 4months .. yes I have gotten senator involved, even now trying another congressman.. it’s crazy

I don’t think your spouse case will take too long before it’s approved..

Any update? My husband had his appointment July 22nd. 221g for administrative processing without asking for any documentation. October 1st status changed from "refused" to "ready" and one date change on October 7th.

Still no update on mine just date updates but status remains READY.. gonna be 6months next week.. I should think your spouse own is progressing nicely within the 60 working days..

Since your status says"READY" after interview, I think it means your passport is ready for pickup. Have you tried contacting the courier service the embassy uses for documents delivery? If your visa was approved at the interview or sometimes after the interview and status later says "ISSUED" with the narrative that "your visa has been printed....", and afterwards says "READY", Then, I think your passport has left the embassy and with the courier. I advise you contact the visa service section of the US embassy in the country where you did your interview.

Hello, many thanks for your kind input..

I do not think READY status means the visa is done. It has been on READY since July, and I requested by passport back in September for some urgent need but there is no visa in it yet..

like most, the status ought to go from READY, to ADMIN PROCESS then finally ISSUED.
I mate who attended the interview on same day had his process that way in July.
I have involved a state senator to help advocate but still only get generic responses. Very many date updates but status remains same.
At the moment, my medical would’ve expired but no update from embassy

They will ask you to redo the Medical

I would be more concerned as to why you have been waiting so long.

Ok many thanks. Will await their advise.
it is indeed frustrating as status has for many months been stuck on READY. Continued inquiries and even senator’s intervention haven’t yielded any results.

So you've had your interview in April but you haven't received your visa yet? Is that right?

The medical is only valid for 6 months from the date it was performed. You will have to do it again if it's been over 6 months as it would have expired.

Starting all over again I mean as in if you don't enter the USA with your visa before it expires, as well as the medical being expired as well, you'll have to do what's in the link I posted above and request that your visa be re-issued. If the consular officer decides you didn't have a valid reason for not travelling when your visa was valid, you may have to start the whole process all over again starting with the I-130. But I would wait for a more experienced member than myself to confirm that.

Yea interview since April and have received my visa yet.
would the embassy contact me to let me know the medical has expired or I just go do a new one without their advise ?
thanks I got the last part on starting over when issued visa

I don't believe USCIS would inform you that your medical has expired. Your medical must be within 6 months valid not only the day of your visa interview but also for when you enter the United States.

If you still haven't entered the USA you'll have to re-book the medical exam.

Was your visa approved? You only have so long to enter the States on it and it will have an expiry date within your passport. Hopefully you can just re-book a medical then enter so long as your visa is still valid. If it's not though and your visa has expired, you may have to restart the whole visa process from scratch starting with the I-130... but I hope a more seasoned user can back me up on that.

Hello, many thanks for your kind input.
My visa is not approved yet. Still on ready status. I had thought the medical only valid 6months after it is done?
what does visa expire means and starting all over again ? My interview was done in April.

  11. Hello all,

some help needed as per medicals.
Mine is already 6 months this week since I did my medical, and almost 6months since the interview. There is currently no change in my tracker status as regards expiration of my medical.
Would the embassy notify me of my medical expiration? Please advise how it works.
status still stuck on READY for months, with most recent date update last week.
Do I just wait for contact?

  12. Valuable experience needed.
Interview done sometimes in April 2024 but 221g note was given with no additional information requested.
Status just changed from REFUSED to READY a week ago after the 60days timeline.
There is no progress since then.
Anyone with useful experience to share on their wait time ?
Saw a few post about people getting stuck on READY status without progress for long.
    Appreciate experienced feedbacks

@Deejee I have been in AP for IR1 since 17th April. The CO said to me all my docs are good and there is nothing more needed from me but it needs further processing. They also kept my passport.
I have contacted them (about 2-3 weeks ago) and got the standard government department answer back that had no actual information of any use in it.  It’s really really frustrating.

Hey! We perhaps were in the embassy same day.. was also placed on Ap.. no further info was required and passport kept.. counting the days .. pretty frustrating ordeal indeed
