Processing time and ESTA entry
apnzz replied to Lesleylou81's topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures
Like others have said, ESTA visits should probably be before k1 issuance. After k1 is issued it's best not to try to enter the US until you're ready to use the k1 and marry and stay. Many people have implied the ESTA get automatically cancelled upon k1 issuance, not sure if that is true but you shouldn't really risk it - if you enter and use the k1 and aren't ready for it, you can't leave the US until you have advanced parole approved or the green card, if you do, you won't be able to re enter and will have to do spousal visa. So even if the k1 issuance does not "cancel" the ESTA, it is not really worth the risk. -
Interview: binders, yay or nay?
apnzz replied to Cranberry_anon's topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures
I'd advise against having that much specifically for k1s. The list of required documents you need isn't that long and proof of relationship doesn't need to be excessive, perhaps just a few up to date pictures or recent travel documents at the most - they already see everything you included in your original i-129f, they don't need your life story. Having too much will just complicate the process of trying to hand docs over fast when they ask for them. Adjustment of status is a different situation, so for k1 the requirements and evidence aren't the same. -
Accidentally opened visa yellow packet
apnzz replied to Narvi Jan's topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures
Perhaps you should've called them beforehand to see if that was even possible or to see what the procedure was in the situation it did get opened. There's no way to really know how it will turn out with doing it how you have done it. Hopefully it works out positively. -
Interview: binders, yay or nay?

I'm using an accordion file. I've used sticky tab / page markers to categories what each section of the accordion file is for so I know where each doc is. -

Waiting on case number
apnzz replied to apnzz's topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports
update: We're in transit!! We didn't even get the case number separately, just immediately had the email telling us our case was forwarded to London and attached the k1 ftp!! Yay!! -
Alright. All I was simply doing was explaining that persons' comment to you because you stated you didn't understand it. & That explanation from the comment was that people encourage using income over assets since assets are usually more difficult to prove and because of their nature, visa processes tend to prefer income as it's easier and more dependable in regard to being used to financially support someone.

Waiting on case number
apnzz replied to apnzz's topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports
I'm sorry that's happening to you, perhaps make a post of your own to see if others are in the same situation as you, as I am not sure anything here will be able to help you since my post is specifically about how long it takes for NVC to provide a case number after they've already received the case. The only advice I can give is to contact a congressman and see if they will assist you. -
Yes, you can visit!
apnzz replied to Michele and Adam's topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures
It wouldn't let me edit so here it js: Airline: United Date: 19 Oct UK Heathrow Airport to Washington D.C Dulles (IAD). Flight was from 12.30 midday landed at around 3.30 EST. Security line was insanely long took almost 3hrs. Questions I was asked: • what is the purpose of your visit? (Visiting fiancé) • how did you meet him? (Over xbox a video game) • where does he live? (Provided exact addresss) • how old is he? (25) • what is your occupation? (I work in a corporate governance firm) • how long are you here for? (Until Nov 30) • is he going to take care of you during that time? (Yes) • how much cash do you have? (I am not carrying any cash) • where does he live? (Repeated question, responded the same) • is this the first time you have visited him? (No) Conclusion: Welcome to the U.S, enjoy your stay. (Prepared proof of ties, proof of noa2 etc and return flight but was not asked for any of this- note it can vary so best to take it just in case.) So happy! -
If you don't have the k1 then it would be unlikely to be the reason he can't pre check. Not being able to check in online is extremely common. I'm flying to the US tomorrow and it was displaying on my account that I couldn't pre check (that I had to go to check in kiosk at the airport to have my travel documents verified by a worker), however upon opening the airline page on my computer, it let me check in no issue. ( I have a k1 pending and we are at NVC stage and I have travelled before whilst waiting for noa2 and had no issues ) But I did have a friend who every single trip to the US, it doesn't let her check in online / pre check. She has to go to the check in counter every time. It could be a variety of things; even down to multiple people having experiences that their name could be one similar to one on a no fly list and therefore they need to see the passport and travel document to verify who they are. It could be a variety of reasons. If you haven't interviewed for the k1, and the k1 hasn't been issued at all, then it's probably not a likely cause of this.

RFE - Timeline
apnzz replied to Morgan Tooke's topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports
Yeah , I was originally from that skipped period and got lucky when I was approved aug 23, someone from the same day as me only just got approved yesterday so the difference can be huge, others are still waiting from Jan and February too, its very hit or miss and unknown haha. Also you can book tickets if you're visiting of course - I personally am going on a short visit tomorrow to see my fiance in the US, but just wouldn't recommend making plans for your actual visa or actual permanent move yet. I got approved Aug 23 and sent to department of state October 7th, only just on the 16th Oct did NVC receive my case. It'll probably be December by the time my interview is and that is optimistic side of it, so it can really vary how long things take. Good luck! -
Waiting on case number
apnzz replied to apnzz's topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports
Thank you! Will do an inquiry next week and see if they have the number -
Hi all, just wondering about recent experiences with how long it takes to get case number from NVC? NVC confirmed they have received my case and its awaiting data entry, how long would it take as a general guess/estimate to get my case number? Thanks
-
I'm in the UK, so I woke up for work and checked my emails at 8am (1hr 23min ago), and I had an email time stamped at 4:28am from NVC stating my case has been received and awaiting data entry. It was an email in response to an inquiry I submitted on Sunday October 13th. (I sent an inquiry using PI form, beneficiary email address) I inquired the week after it was sent to dos. Thank you

I believe that the actual interview will be in English - BUT, they allow translators if required. This is a paragraph copied from the travel state gov web, also, below this paragraph was a sort of section outlining the processes for applying for a translator. Best advice would be to search your specific US embassy website for your country and locate if and what the process is for having a translator.

Family/Friends unsupportive
apnzz replied to Bunninuts's topic in Moving to the US and Your New Life In America
Unfortunately there will always be people who think that way. It's extremely narrow minded and completely unwarranted, but Unfortunately that is just how some people are. If they have expressed that's how they view the situation, I can't exactly say it'll magically get fixed, because realistically people who have those mindsets are extremely set in their ways, stubborn and are not open to anyone changing their minds. It does suck, but at the end of the day if they do not choose to support you in your relationship; regardless of where your fiancé is originally from, then there is a huge chance that they never will. Hopefully in time perhaps they will change their perspective from exposure and education, but there is a very real possibility that this won't happen. And then you have to accept the fact this could alter the friendship/ relationship you have with that family member or friend. All that matters is you are both happy in your relationship. You can't control what opinions other people have. Even if they're extremely offensive and rude and hurtful to you. -
The medical report took 3 months
apnzz replied to PokuPoku's topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures
Perhaps this could be a country specific thing "specialist from the hospital". Many countries allow the proof of being mentally fit and mental health reports to come from licensed professionals, in many cases the doctor is professional who treated the patient, especially in situations where the patient has completed the treatment etc etc. Some countries just require it to be from a licensed doctor in general. Either way - so sorry you have had such a long and draining journey. I hope you guys get some good news and some faster progress from this point onward. I know it's probably silly to hear, but the challenges you face will make you guys stronger! -
The medical report took 3 months
apnzz replied to PokuPoku's topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures
Sorry to hear you went through that. Unfortunately it is a well known thing that any type of mental health illness or history will be inevitably addressed because many countries medical exams require a patient history and people should approach that accordingly. ( a quick google search of k1 mental health history or even searching the forum here shows many results.) Many processes from individual countries will outline the specific requirements; specific medical history, even letters from psychiatrists or psychologists. A lot of them want you to prove you are no longer a harm to others or yourself (with certain circumstances of specific mental illnesses.) It does state that in many places https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/step-10-prepare-for-the-interview/medical-examination-faqs.html & there have been a lot of posts on here about histories of mental illness and how that can affect the k1. But it is very unfortunate and sad that getting the appropriate documents etc can take such a long time. Sorry to hear how difficult your journey has been so far. Hope you guys get some progress soon. Just hold onto the fact it'll be worth it in the end. -
Thank you all for the responses! Think I'll be booking it 7 days apart (if I can) just hoping I can figure it all out, I return to the UK November 30th, want my visa before Christmas so praying for a little Christmas miracle lol & just wanted to check with people, visa medicals themselves have said 5 days to multiple people now, so I am sure it'll be alright to do 7 days or so. Appreciate yall!

Yeah, they tick 221g and then tick the awaiting medical option.

Ours was 1 page haha. Just extremely brief and to the point - we met online via a video gaming group chat then the first time actually hanging out was on a video game, then progression from there. I just felt the need to explain that as I felt like it could be perceived as a weird/uncommon way of meeting haha. Even that felt like a bit much to me, personally. And we've known each other since around 2017 and been in a relationship since late 2019, so length of relationship has no difference in the length of the relationship "timeline". Just keep it short snappy and brief. This was for the initial i-129f packet, I'll probably bring a copy of it to the interview but I highly doubt they'll even care or ask for it. These people process so many cases per day, they don't want to be buried in unnecessary stuff, realistically I doubt they would even read the entire thing if it was longer than a few pages.

Anyone have experience with leaving 5 days between the medical and interview for London K1s? Visa Medicals is currently saying 5 days is enough time between both and I want to know if this is okay. I know everyone has always said 10 days but if they're saying that 5 is enough, is it? TiA
