  1. Would like to set the record straight about Mahmoud Khalil and assist with that definition but if this is going to be a political discussion, the thread needs to be moved. If anyone can help with that..
  2. Honorary Saffa; or so my bokkie says 😂
  3. The backlogs come at the embassy level, which is why there is a disparity in wait times. Embassy is an important factor.

  5. Your EAD grants you the ability to work AND study in the United States; however, with your AOS pending you run the risk of potentially being denied and having to abandon your studies. I would advise online learning as an option, just in case.
  6. This thread has been an actual delight to read. So happy for the progress, congratulations!
  7. We're living in different times. I remember being younger and hearing how taboo it was to meet someone online, and how ludicrous it was for people to date consistently and commitedly without having met in person... yet. However, times have changed, and the idea that your one-time meetup is potentially disqualifying, when we live in a digital age that even made meeting this person unthinkable twenty years ago, is a bit laughable to me. I feel tertiary factors will come into play greatly here: the age of you two, your financial stability, and the length of knowing each other overall. The K1 requirement is to have met in the past two years; take that literally, and focus on how, if you've only met once, have you legitimized your bona fide relationship in ways other than in each other's physical company. For context, my husband and I met online through a virtual world in 2017 and began dating in 2020. We finally got to meet in person in March of 2023 and submitted our I-129F five months later. We are also financially independent and considerably mature (that's more a slight to us and our gray hairs than you lol), so I do feel our case was assessed with these factors in mind. He is also from a low-fraud country, and not to be particularly biased but I do think if your future spouse is from the Western world, this is going to help a lot. So personally, if I were under 25 and looking into doing K1, I'd increase the number of visits OR find ways to strengthen your case: whether it's a gift trail of receipts dating back years, a snapshot of lengthy call logs on Discord going back several years, or really any evidence with history that implies you have gotten to know each other, and consequently fell in love. Be clear and concise, and document everything. I know the OP posted almost two months ago, but I believe it's still useful food for thought, given that online relationships aren't going anywhere. Otherwise, if you are sure about each other but not the process, Utah online marriages are the way to go. You're already distant, enter your married life and get the spousal visa filed instead. It'll save on time, money, and paperwork in the long run. Best to you two. ❤️
  8. "The Irish influencer", wow, first time I heard anyone admit that. I know he was born in Singapore and lived in Dubai for a time. The Irish schooling/childhood almost seems like an afterthought. But hey, no one accused him of being an American patriot. Because... why 😂
  9. Are any of these people processing through South Africa, by any chance... There's no relativity if they aren't
  10. With "November 1st" printed on my NOA1, I consider myself an honorary member of the club anyway lol
  11. A reminder that we would love your timeline recorded: please pay it forward and fill it out here! https://www.visajourney.com/timeline/profile.php?id=485493
  12. You have to take into account the new refugee status applied to SA citizens with the current administration. This may have resulted in an increase in staffing to accommodate the increased workload, and it may not have: yet. You can always use the Department of State website to assess the visa bulletin and see the monthly processing by visa type. Traditionally Joberg processes a vast amount of work visas, namely H-1B, compared to family based. Currently no legislation has changed the H-1B process so that staff is still allocated to that work, as well as the new refugee status applications. Family based will remain high priority but I am unsure if the refugee status precludes it. Ultimately I would expect at least 3 months, perhaps longer. Our K1 sat at NVC last summer for four months before being received at the embassy, which although you should not comparatively assess other timelines too much, given it's the same embassy and combined with current events, gives some useful context. Good luck with your journey!
  13. I've recorded everything on our timeline, including additional notes. Our NVC status was extremely opaque and longer than I predicted. Workloads are sent to the embassies every two weeks so it can take a while to see movement. Between the two NOA2s we received (mhm) and finally getting word from Joberg, took about four months. This was also last summer, and given the refugee status for SA minorities applied by the current administration, things may have backed up a bit in the embassies. Or, could mean your case moves out of NVC faster because of workload demand. Very hard to say, not sure how the embassies are staffed these days.

  15. Could have something to do with perceiving his new podcast endeavor as a betrayal, when it's just an attempt at an early campaigning strategy. No one ever claimed MSM was full of geniuses.
  16. Not allowed. I got you lol Today's stats: March 25, 2025 23:24 EDT November 2024 Filed I-485 Stats • Approved: 460 • Denied: 125 • FingerprintScheduled: 248 • InterviewCancelled: 90 • InterviewScheduled: 2127 • Processing: 37,090 • Received: 730 • Rejected: 103 • RFE: 1,094 • Terminated: 113 • Withdrawal: 3 • Others: 85
  17. Just FYI @Augustjourney2024 don't freak out if they send another NOA2. We really weren't expecting that because we thought our case was already sitting at NVC; then, two months into the four month validity period, we got ANOTHER one which was startling. It had reset the dates completely and moved them forward. Everything else was the same, including the receipt number and the case number, as we verified in a panic with Emma. Turned out to be a good thing because Jon's interview fell between the new dates. Hopefully you are spared the complication, but just in case ❤️
  18. We will be working towards estate documents ASAP but in the meantime as we expect a pending interview, can you clarify how one obtains HIPAA releases? I know I have one on file as I had to go in for a bit of preventative medicine last month and had to be put under, and I signed one that included my husband. Is this something the clinic/hospital can release should you call them? Maybe their medical records department? Or our insurance? The whole medical/healthcare industry is a ball of confusion. All I know is that we're on a plan together and have proof of that. Looking to boost our supporting docs with HIPAA if we can.
  19. I realize that you might be trying to project cost of living and how long until another income can support it. It's really hard to say what the timing is with the new administration. Just expecting it to fluctuate, as it always does and as @SalishSea mentions, is probably the best way to keep your sanity. Stay the course.
  20. @Edward and Jaycel time is running out! 😂 Don't break your streak now!
  21. Did your wife bring any documentation as supporting evidence, such as comingled finances or assets? Any proof of creating accounts stateside, or updating residency such as adding to lease or getting a state ID/driver's license? There's a lot more to the picture than just asking a few questions. I'd be curious about that first.
