I am certain there's plenty of new media out there--podcasts, Reddit, and the like--perpetuating these takes. I won't even jump on the legacy media entirely here, there's a lot of that from the opposition espousing Fox News as all we watch. I don't think I've ever been able to stomach it. Network news is insufferable. All the same it's been purported that those who lean left in this country take in only media that supports their worldview, whereas folks on the right will stomach both sides a lot more, creating a more critical view and breaking through echo chambers. My point being, maybe try out some of those "alt right adjacent guys" @wazzujoel and see if TYT or Destiny are on to something. See for yourself. Might be surprised.

How To Commit Democratic Party Suicide
hplusj replied to TBoneTX's topic in Current Events and Hot Social Topics
You forgot the rest of the quote lol "...Just Because They Won Election" The lack of nuance, satirical appreciation, or just humor in general is going to make those midterms a real pain for the Democrats. Might want to work on that. -
Travel scare for green card holders
hplusj replied to Hassan Raza's topic in Current Events and Hot Social Topics
Yes, in fact it does. Particularly if they come to America and instigate unlawfulness in defense of particular foreign policies. I don't care if his internship was serving coffee, cleaning toilets, or handling sensitive documents. It is pertinent information to an immigration application whether it is employment and/or membership. You might be trying to make a point but it comes across as rather smug and demeaning, namely to cleaners. Just FYI. -
USCIS Verifying Employment?
hplusj replied to hplusj's topic in Adjustment of Status from Work, Student, & Tourist Visas
My income on its own should be solid, the amount of pay is not the concern but we certainly don't want them to assume he just kept working for the same employer and received pay when he was not authorized to do so. I can have him follow up with his employer for a written statement if you think that helps. Or we can just inform them that they might receive a call to corroborate what is explained at the interview. Just wondering if anyone has actually heard from their foreign or domestic bosses that they were contacted..? Especially in recent times. -
Might be a nothingburger but I'm just curious: how does USCIS verify employment other than tax transcripts and paystubs? Do they ever contact employers? What if the income is foreign based? Reason: my husband suspended his employment when he left for the US and after receiving his EAD touched based with his former employer to see how the transition was going since he was a project leader for them. They said they could use him again as his replacement was struggling and they put him back on the payroll to work in a remote position. We figured this would be an easier course to take since looking for work in the US might've been an uphill slog we weren't ready to shoulder, and knew this would be guaranteed income as soon as he was authorized. Will USCIS inspect the hiatus in his employment or raise flags about his present employer being the same as it was before he left South Africa? Should we bring an employment letter similar to what I included with the I-864 to verify his hiatus or will they ever call the employer to check? We did file joint taxes and the pay he received in 2024 reflected a pause in his income for the two and a half months he was unemployed, but the transcript does not reflect a monthly breakdown, and of course we can't supply paystubs for nonexistent pay periods. Anything we can provide as evidence here, or are we fine just explaining the hiatus at the interview? Thanks in advance.

Amazing, we very much appreciate it! Reach out any time with more questions.

I suspect the reason people feel it's worth dismissing is because it's fearmongering and divisive. Contrary to what you've heard or seen on your media, a majority of Americans are pleased with the administration and voted for it. They're not looking to be divisive, and find those seeking to be divisive based on hunches yet to be realized, as problematic to put it kindly. No one's saying you're not allowed. You're just creating the division you reprimand. Hello, my name is the consequences of your actions. These are not mutually exclusive policies. One does not replace the other. Biden did a whole lot of tomfoolery, clean up is in all aisles. I mean.. I am. 😂 As a great philosopher once said, facts don't care about your feelings.

Travel scare for green card holders

Fantastic post, and well thought out. Assimilation does not mean discarding your history or sense of self to be a part of some American collective. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and sentiments about America, however they are not exempt from legal assessment for their actions that purport to be critical and not in just an innocuous way. Nor should a blind eye be passed to people entering this country, who clearly have no regard for it. The rights to speech and assembly are necessary protections but they don't exist in a laissez-faire umbrella of no policy whatsoever. If you are a citizen OR a LPR, you are expected to assemble lawfully, and as such you won't be restricted. The right to assemble should not infringe of the rights of others, and unfortunately when you occupy buildings, you are doing just that. When you commit unlawful acts in this country as an LPR, you can expect the privilege of being here to be revoked. Khalil's I-485 is also clearly rife with misrepresentation. UNRWA has argued that he was an unpaid intern and therefore there was no need to list it in his previous employment; however, it is inarguable that UNRWA qualifies as an "organization, association, fund, foundation, party, club, society, or similar group in the United States or in any other location in the world including any military service", and so omitting it from question 1 of Section 8 is already a fraudulent application. I fail to see how one can be employed or interning at UNRWA without being a member of it. Additionally, see question 71: Have you EVER lied about, concealed, or misrepresented any information on an application or petition to obtain a visa, other documentation required for entry into the United States, admission to the United States, or any other kind of immigration benefit? Include with the following, prefaced on the application with "do you intend to:" 46.c. Engage in any activity whose purpose includes opposing, controlling, or overthrowing the U.S. Government by force, violence, or other unlawful means while in the United States? 46.d. Engage in any activity that could endanger the welfare, safety, or security of the United States? 46.e. Engage in any other unlawful activity? Also: 47. Are you engaged in or, upon your entry into the United States, do you intend to engage in any activity that could have potentially serious adverse foreign policy consequences for the United States? And then there's question 48 through 50 but that's a whole other ball of wax, given your interpretation of UNRWA and/or the activist groups he's been engaged with for protests here. I'm sorry but the evidence is overwhelming. The only reason there's any kind of in-depth coverage of this issue is because of its connections to Columbia University. The institutional capture in this country is an embarrassment. You don't get to harass or disrupt university functions, public or private, and decry the unfairness of it all as if you're the victim. I am so tired of the privileged in this country, citizen or not, acting like we have some moral authority over global events. We have our own society to stabilize and maintain. As I might've chanted in my own anti-Iraq war protests back in the day, your atrocities aren't our responsibilities. How completely backwards activism has become. Also great job derailing the conversation @A Polite Parrot I'm sure OP really appreciates that. 🙄 -

Wishful thinking perhaps, but a nice consideration

Do I report foreign income on U.S. taxes?
hplusj replied to Katzlat's topic in Tax & Finances During US Immigration
We ended up going with H&R Block due to the complexity of it; I've been doing my own taxes for years, but 2024 was humbling to say the least, given that Jon had foreign income before arriving AND after his EAD, not to mention I moved states and positions. The cost of hiring a CPA offset our marriage tax credit sadly, but we wanted it done right. Future years will be much easier to manage. -
Fun fact: I got ahold of our clinic's medical records department as we tried to request the HIPAA releases through their online system, and just got our most recent appointment notes. Medical records lady Barb, upon hearing what document I actually needed: "Well this is highly unusual." I thanked her for her opinion and asked her firmly but politely to email the document which releases my care to my husband in a medical emergency, unusual or not, immediately. I had it in my inbox two minutes later. Thanks Barb 😂

Would like to set the record straight about Mahmoud Khalil and assist with that definition but if this is going to be a political discussion, the thread needs to be moved. If anyone can help with that.. -

The backlogs come at the embassy level, which is why there is a disparity in wait times. Embassy is an important factor. -
