Hey everyone: My wife and I got married at the beginning of 2024 and since then we applied for an immigrant spouse visa for her (CR1 case.) From what I see the processing times for her country (from start to finish) range around 3 years. Thus I was wondering if it is possible (or should I say, advisable) to have her apply for a tourist visa to come see me in the US while we're waiting for a spouse visa?

We got married in Feb of 2024 and applied for a spouse visa for my wife- CR1 case. She is a Kenyan citizen. She checked and it looks like the current processing time of her visa in the US embassy in Nairobi is around 3 years. Which is way longer than most other countries (even the neighboring ones). Does anyone know - why does it take so long in Nairobi?

Hi everyone: I'm applying for the marriage visa for my spouse (form I-130) while living with her in Nairobi, Kenya. I saw somewhere during the application that I will be required to pass biometric screening (fingerprints and such.) But I'm not in the US, even though I used my billing address in the US. (I'm using a virtual mailbox service for that.) So I'm wondering if I can pass biometrics in the US embassy? Has anyone tried it? And if so, where do I request it? Thanks!

Thank you all for your help! We got married at the Utah County website via their online Zoom ceremony yesterday. I can't believe how quickly it happened. Those guys are very efficient. The ceremony itself took about 10 min via Zoom and it cost $71 for the marriage license, and $36 for the Zoom ceremony itself. All from the same website. What's also funny is that there are third-party services, like Courtly that charge over $500 for the same thing. So now we're working on applying for I-130.

Thanks, guys. I couldn't reply earlier because evidently there's a limit to the number of replies that I can make per day. Anyway, we scheduled an online virtual (Zoom) ceremony via the UT website that someone linked above. We shall see how it goes. Thanks again for suggesting it! One thing is not clear to me though. I requested and paid for the marriage license (via utahcounty.gov website) and also set up & scheduled an appointment for the virtual/Zoom ceremony, also through them. But then I read somewhere that we also need someone to officiate this virtual marriage. So do we need to find someone to do that, or what?

@powerpuffwow, that's great. Thanks for that suggestion. That sounds like a winner to me! I've been reading their website, and the scheduling page mentions this: Do you know, what license are they referring to?

Oh wow, is that for real? So you go on a Zoom call with them and then they give you a marriage certificate for $35. And it's legal and accepted by the USCIS. I couldn't find it in their FAQ page if someone has to be a resident of the Utah to use that online marriage.

Oh, great. Thank you, guys. The spousal visa indeed looks better. We wanted to marry in Kenya first and even filed a petition with the Kenyan government. It turned out though that they require something called an "affidavit of no impediment" or something that I need to get from the US embassy, but I have no idea how and where to get it from them. Any idea what that thing is? I also tried to book an appointment, and it takes over a month just to get it. Otherwise I just thought to go with what I already heard about, the K1 visa.

Thank you, both. Sorry, I'm very new to this. What is CR1? And what's the advantage of it over K1? Yes, I agree, the fees are quite steep. Even now. @powerpuff I don't have a check book with me in Kenya, but I have it in the US. I also have a US based bank account. And also a credit and a debit card.

I'm a US citizen, currently living in Nairobi, Kenya with my fiance, a Kenyan citizen. We're planning to apply for K1 visa. I have read the instructions on the USCIS website, but I have a couple of questions: Do I have to mail the I-129F form using the snail mail, or can I file online? Payment wise, I'm wondering how can I pay for I-129F filing from Kenya? I also read that they may require a biometric screening. I wonder if I can do it at the embassy in Nairobi? Lastly if they green light the application, can I go with her to the embassy for the interview here in Nairobi? Thanks in advance!
