    @JayFromTexas Can you share the exact date in August your spouse entered the US? My husband entered on September 11 and we’re still waiting to hear from the USCIS about his green card. He said they didn’t take any biometrics at his POE.

    My husband disclosed to me that at his POE, the immigration officer at the airport did not take his fingerprints. Is that not a requirement? Cos I remember mine was taken when I entered 12 years ago. I’m asking because we have been waiting for over 6 weeks for his green card to be produced but to no avail. I have heard about people who received theirs within 4 weeks of arrival. A lady I spoke to entered recently and when he contacted USCIS to change her address, and she asked to go and get her biometrics done before her green card was produced and mailed to her. Could his fingerprints not taken be the reason for the delay? Should we contact the USCIS or wait for the 90 days to pass first?

    Even if they keep her passport after the interview, she can request it back. My husband did and he received it in 2 days.

    @appleblossom I agree. The lady actually did everything and even got my husband to sign for his ATM card. It was when she went to print out the card that she came back to tell us their policy had changed so she couldn’t add him until he’s been here for 6 months or he receives his actual green card. I was very upset that they wasted our time so I didn’t even ask to speak to their manager. Looking back, I wish I did 😂.

    @appleblossom Yes, it does say the payment has been received and they’ll produce the card within 90 days. We were just worried because I couldn’t add him to my state credit union account. We tried Capital One today and they opened the account for him. However, I’m not sure my state’s (Maryland) would accept the passport stamp (I-551) in place of the green card. I have read all the requirements and I don’t see any for that. Now that we have the bank account, we will wait a while to see. Wednesday will be 6 weeks since he arrived.

    @SteveInBostonI130 Thank you, we will try another bank to see. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have a DL yet as our state requires he has a green card. This whole process is frustrating.

    Has anyone entered the US with a CR1/IR1 visa recently and gotten his/her green card? My husband entered exactly 5 weeks ago and he received his SS card in a week. However, we have been checking for updates on his green card and we get the same response that they will produce it within 90 after the payment/his arrival in the US. We are worried because he has a potential job that he will interview for soon. And we don’t know if they would give him an offer with only his social and passport. Also, can anyone recommend any bank that would accept only his social and passport to open an account for him? I wanted to add him to my state credit union account but they wouldn’t do it without his green card.

    People have different experiences when it comes to receiving their SS cards. My husband entered on September 11 and received his in the mail on September 19. We were even planning to go to the SS office to apply for one on the 20 but luckily, we didn’t have to. Give your self some 2 weeks and if you don’t receive it, then you go and apply. Some offices require you to make an appointment while others accept walk ins. It’s been exactly 3 weeks since my husband came and we’re still waiting for his green card to arrive so you may have to give yourself some time. Most states require 2 proof of addresses to apply for drivers license so you may have to check with your state requirements.

    I remember when I went for my biometrics, I was given a book and a CD player. I used to play the CD in my car whenever I was driving. It did really help.

    @M S Khan After we contacted our congressman, we didn’t do anything again. We got his passport back and only waited until they got back to us. All you can do now is to wait. For all you know your documents have been sent to her home country’s embassy for the necessary checks.

    @M S Khan Hahaha I went back to the records to give you the correct dates. The passport remaining with them won’t speed or delay the Admin Process. We received the same backlash from family and friends too for requesting my husband’s back but like you said she’ll need it for the medical. Hopefully, they issue the visa before it expires but if they don’t, then she’ll need it. The embassy actually waited for my husband to complete his 2nd medical before they asked us to submit the passport. Good luck to you guys.

    @M S Khan No, they did not. My husband is a UK resident and wasn’t on a visa but I don’t see it to become a problem even if your wife travels out and comes back when her visa is ready. My husband received the email for additional medical on April 26, he then called the clinic on April 30 and his appointment was scheduled for May 7. The embassy received his medical report and requested for his passport on May 16. After the passport was delivered on May 20, his visa was issued on May 2023 and he received his passport with the visa on May 30th.

    @M S Khan Sorry to hear your wife’s visa has still not been issued. I remember you mentioned she is on a visitor’s visa so it could be they’re doing a background check in her home country. Getting the passport back won’t affect whatever checks they’re doing. They’ll request for it back when they are convinced and ready to issue the visa. The same thing happened with my husband’s own.

    @Ali91 Then forget about naturalizing and continue with your job until you’re ready to move to the US. Entering the US every 6 months will still not make you eligible for naturalization. You need to prove continue residency before you can qualify.

    I learned that K-1 visa applicants receive the X -Ray and carry them with them but all other visas do not. My husband was recently issued his CR1 and he wasn’t given anything in hand. His visa indicated everything is electronic. However, I have a friend who came in with a K-1 last year and she had to carry her X-Ray with her.

    Wow I didn’t know this could be a problem. I’m even surprised they didn’t choose one for you based on your resident address. When I did my husband’s I-130, I chose a consulate in our home country where we were both born but the NVC picked a consulate in his country of residence for his interview which made the process even faster as his country of resident had no backlogs.

    I don’t know if things have changed since I did mine but the interview as I know is mostly about the civil questions and once you pass you’re good to go. When I did mine, I was asked if I wanted to take the oath the same day and I said yes so I waited and did it the same day. She should remember to go with her green card.

    @Gary RichYou mean your friend’s husband got approved for expedite at USCIS and went through NVC and consular processing all within 10 days? I am finding it difficult to believe this.

    I used to get called when I was a green card holder and I would always write them back that I’m not a citizen. However, I’ve been a citizen for 8 years and have never been called and I’ve never changed states. I wish it remains so though lol.
