Hi all, a strange one but perhaps someone can help: I have a B2 tourist visa. If I was to travel to the US and while at my relatives’ home, my brother-in-law hands me his gun for me to shoot a couple of rounds, is that allowed? Or are tourist visa holders not allowed to use firearms even if it’s in a private yard?

Hi all, I logged in to USCIS to check the status of my I-130 petition but after logging in, it's now asking for an online access code as well as my receipt number? However, I don't currently have an online access code. Is this a new site update? Will they be sending these codes out?

Hi all, My USC wife and I submitted the I-130 two weeks ago, on February 9. There is now a 'myProgress' tab in our USCIS account which says the estimated time until a decision is made will be "2 months". Is this likely to change again? All the research I've done, it's supposed to actually take about 12 months. Thanks for your advice.

Thanks all. I should have clarified that we are both in the UK and my USC wife works for a UK company, and she only files the standard 1040. I know June is our IRS deadline but if we haven't heard from the NVC by January 2025, we should file as soon as the IRS starts accepting 2024 returns in the new year?

My partner and I just filed I-130. We understand it will take one year to process. If the NVC send request for documents in January 2025, is 2024 the latest tax year transcript required for the affidavit of support? Therefore, we would need to file the 2024 tax return with IRS at the start of 2025? Or, since it’s so early in the year, will 2023 count as the latest tax year?

Even though we have more than enough in cash savings? That seems a little harsh. We can probably find a joint sponsor if we need to but I was hoping to avoid that.

Thank you all for your answers. She has an unexpired DL but it's in her old name (before marriage) and attached to her parents' old address (they just moved). She does apparently have some letters with their old address. Yes, we will use our savings as liquid assets. We have 3x poverty line.

Hi there. My wife (US citizen) and I (British citizen) are getting ready to begin the green card process. We have lived together in the UK for three years. Looking ahead to the I-864, I'm a little concerned about the intent to reestablish domicile. We want to move to the US permanently, but she has been out of the US for years now (she lived in Germany for seven years prior) and doesn't have a US bank/residence/job. She has filed taxes every year and obviously we intend to open a bank account, buy a property and look for jobs once we're there, but we were planning to wait until my green card is approved. Initially, we are planning to move in with her parents as a base while we set up our life there. Should I be concerned? Is it worth opening a bank account (if even possible without residence), placing a bid on a property or trying to secure a job before the green card is approved, just so the NVC see that she really intends on reestablishing domicile? My wife and I are getting our documents together to apply for the I-130. We opened a joint bank account together about two years ago, but we never really use it and we only use it to occasionally transfer money between us. There is no money in the account right now. In this case, is it worth including our joint bank account as a supporting document? Should I put some money in it, or will that look suspicious ahead of applying for the I-130? We also have our marriage certificate, lease agreement, utility bills, photos, correspondence and affidavits.
