Will he need to go to the US Embassy in Oslo and turn in his Permanent Resident card and show proof of divorce?

My Norwegian husband and I were married here in the United States in December 2011. We lived as man and wife up until he moved back to Norway on 25 Oct 2020. We have been separated from each other since then which is over 3 years now. Even though we got married here in the states and with the amount of separation I understand he can file for a divorce in Norway - and probably it would be granted without the separation clause due to when he left? Also, if he is granted the Norwegian divorce is it legal in the US also to be classified as divorced? What will he be required to do there to sever ties with the US and me? Will he need to go to the US Embassy in Oslo and turn in his Permanent Resident card? Thank you - Judy
