  1. I am going to reschedule my medical to a later date.
  2. Yes, I do. It is one of many deadlines on my mind all the time!
  3. The sale would be three or four months after the K-1 visa. I will see if I can get the joint sponsor sorted out for I-134.
  4. Thanks for your interest in my problem. That was my thoughts as well. The beneficiary of a trust has no control over its assets.
  5. Thanks for taking the trouble to reply. No, there is no regular income from the trust. How it is distributed is at the sole discretion of the two trustees. The family member who set up the trust believed, incorrectly in our opinion, that receipt of an inheritance would make my fiancée ineligible for SSDI.
  6. Thanks for replying so quickly. I am wondering how I could self-sponsor. Would a valuation from an estate agent (realtor) be sufficient? I have an email giving me a valuation. I could also get details of the outstanding mortgage and ownership deeds. My fiancée's SSDI income is around 100% of federal poverty guidelines. I need to get the precise figure. In terms of the I-864 I don't think self-sponsorship would work. As a household of two adults and one child we would need $32,275 x three = $96,825. A modest wedding, I-864 filing fees and a month of living expenses would take me below that figure. The person who agreed to be my financial co-sponsor is busy with family issues so I don't want to disturb her too much. She should be more available in the Summer or Fall when I arrive and need to file the I-864.
  7. My fiancée does not have a high income. She is on SSDI. However, she does have more than $100,000 in a family trust from an inheritance. Would this money count as an asset of hers for the purposes of the I-134 Affidavit of Support for K-1 visa? I am guessing not as the funds are not under her control. The trustees of this trust are two close family members. Could this trust be a financial co-sponsor or do co-sponsors have be natural persons? Second question, has anyone sponsored himself/herself on the I-134 at the London Embassy? When my house is sold I will have about $100,000 in cash after the outstanding mortgage balance is paid. (I am also trying to find a financial co-sponsor.)
  8. I have a medical booked for next week. The information from Visa Medicals was a little vague about what they wanted, it just said summary of medical records. My GP sent me some digital print outs. One had the heading "Significant Medical History" and the other was "Encounter Report." Visa Medicals have their own form for you to fill out and discuss. If they need any further clarification they can ask you to get it from your GP. Others on these forums have written about their experiences. I am not aware of anyone ever having a problem. I don't see why the embassy does not just send a standard form to your doctor and cut out the middle man. It would be really interesting to hear how you get on. All the best!
  9. How long ago did you this happen?
  10. Not a good idea unless one of the partners is very wealthy!
  11. It would be interesting to know what the attitude of the Colombian government and the Roman Catholic Church is to couples who do not bother to register religious marriages. Hopefully, they will take the advice you gave them earlier this week.
  12. I would be interested to know long it takes to get the ACRO certificate. I applied for mine eleven days ago. In terms of the house sale if it looks like being too much of a time crunch I will reduce the price! If anyone wants a cheap holiday home in south Wales please get in touch ...
  13. In terms of Roman Catholic theology and canon law you ARE married so I don't think. In the eyes of the church what you had was not merely a religious ceremony it WAS a marriage. If you claim not to be married on the DS-160 that would be wrong.
  14. I am in a similar position. I booked the medical for March 12th, but am still waiting for a medical report from my doctor and a criminal record certificate. (I was told I could email the certificate to them afterwards. Presumably this is only the case if there is nothing on it.) What did you do? I have a house to sell, but don't want to do so until my visa has been approved.
  15. Well done. That's good news. The I-129F asks for the addresses of the petitioner since the age of eighteen. So presumably they could check criminal history if they had any concerns?
  16. The I-129F petition is more about YOU not your fiancé. The usual procedure is that he will be asked to provide details of his criminal record at his interview. Can you just send back a properly completed form with a covering letter apologising for the error?
  17. I live in the United Kingdom. As the beneficiary, I have recently received letters from The National Visa Center and the American embassy in London.
  18. My fiancee is in receipt of a social security benefit called SSDI - Social Security Disability Insurance. She does not file taxes. Will this matter? She has a letter from the social security agency confirming her income. We will be using her aunt as a co-sponsor of my visa application.
  19. I received a letter a few days ago confirming the London embassy had my documentation. I rang up and booked a medical this afternoon. I have started filling the ACRO police certificate application that I will need for the medical and visa interview. It asked for my passport details. My passport expires in three months time so I will need one for the visa interview. Will it matter if I use the old passport for the ACRO application and present my new one at the visa interview? Will the consular officer mind if the certificate has my old passport details on it? Will he check? Does the ACRO certificate actually have any passport details on it?
  20. This article is interesting: https://ukconstitutionallaw.org/2024/01/30/chris-rowe-the-legality-of-the-new-minimum-income-requirement/
  21. The salary figures go up if a child is involved. In any event, it is very difficult to get a visa for a step child. I can't see much prospect of Labour changing the rules. The change is going to affect ethnic minorities disproportionately. That seems unwise from the point of view of electoral strategy. I certainly won't forget this policy and won't forget to register as an overseas voter.
  22. Six months from: the date of the medical exam; the date of approval of the I-129F form; or the date when the consular officer approves the K1 fiance visa? Could some one clarify?
