Hi everyone!
Thanks so much in advance for all your help - I've been reading these forums for a while as I prepare to file my I-130 for my spouse, but haven't been able to find any recent articles on the problem I'm facing.
My spouse and I live together in Mexico City - and have for the past two years. I'm a US citizen, but have temporary residency in Mexico (and can prove that I've been here more than 6 months as I have a lease here for over a year). We recently got married on a trip to the US but plan to stay in Mexico City together until the CR-1 visa is approved.
However, I'm currently working on filing the paperwork for the I-130 CR1 visa, but I'm not sure as to the best approach. I've been reading about Direct Consular Filing as we currently both reside overseas, but I'm not sure if that's a possibility anymore. I do retain a residence in the US (have proof of residence, file my taxes there and have a bank account there).
Should I go through the normal filing of the I-130 as I live in the US and he lives abroad? Or what is the best approach?
Thanks in advance for all your help!
