  1. Hello all! I am a US citizen, looking to file for a IR-1 Spouse Visa. I have read the helpful guides and believe I have an understanding of what forms and information to include when filing for the IR-1 Visa. Currently, we are residing outside the US (in Mexico). In my research it seems there is a different filing process when the US citizen is residing outside the US? Is this accurate? Another question, my husband has his US tourist visa, so when filing do we also need to file for more of a visa transfer rather than a new visa entirely? I hope my questions are clear and I appreciate any and all feedback. VisaJourney is an excellent resource and I am happy to be part of it. Thank you, Katie
  2. Hello everyone at Visa Journey, I am a US citizen living abroad in Mexico. I married my husband (Mexican citizen) here in Mexico, March 2024. I have my temporary resident visa for Mexico and we are hopeful to start the process for the CR/IR visa for my husband. I am looking for advice and guidance if anyone else has been in this situation, married and living abroad. We are hoping to discover if it is recommended to go through the consulate here in Mexico, or if we should travel to the US to file and complete paperwork. I also understand we will need to fill out the I-864 Affidavit of Support. I am currently unemployed but I see we can have a sponsor also sign. Does anyone have experience with this as well? Thank you for your help and support, Katie and Alfonso
  3. Thank you so much leen21. Love that you included that the translated birth certificate has to be a certified translation, I absolutely would have tried to do that myself.
  4. Just curious if legally marrying in one country or another has an advantage or disadvantage.
  5. I am a US citizen and my fiancé is a Mexican citizen. He has his US tourist visa and we want to get married. Do someone know if it is best to legally get married in the US or in Mexico, and a follow up question of is there travel restrictions or visa changes that need to happen for either party? We are living in Mexico now but hope to move to the US in a couple of years. Thank you.
