  1. My fiancee speaks/reads malay and english near perfectly. If you'd like, you can PM me and we help you with the translation and possibly even have her translate and certify it for you. Did you have someone else look at the translation before submitting it? It might be possible something was translated wrong.
  2. you nailed it. She just now called and this is what they said. She will receive a letter soon stating what she needs to provide.
  3. In America. Alabama. First time passport. My dad got his after around 8 weeks. It took 13 weeks for my mom to get her's.
  4. My mom checked the envelope again and there is no note. I guess she should contact the passport office to see whats going on then?
  5. US passports. We are all US citizens by birth.
  6. My parents both applied for a passport at the same time. My dad got his a month ago. My mom got her's today. Her passport expires in 2024. Any clue why this would be? My dad's expires in 10 years like mine does (i got mine in 2021). We're traveling in Feb/March so I don't think it'll be an issue for this trip. (I wasn't too sure where to ask this)
  7. nope, overall. Maybe 8 to 14 months is more accurate, but you can see here, that NOA1 to NOA2 is in free-fall https://www.visajourney.com/times/k1-fiance-visa-historical/ Adding up all the days, its around 480 days. Its very likely to keep coming down too. Someone on these forums linked to this video earlier. Someone analyzed the data and he seemed to think that NOA1 to NOA2 will come down to around ~250 days (removed)
  8. After covid, a huge backlog of k-1 applications developed, but thats changing now since they are catching up on the backlog. If you were to apply today, it should take 6 to 12 months.
  9. You can see the stats here I-129F Processing time has been going down every month
  10. Thanks. I wanted to make sure since I didn't see any discussion about this regarding self employed people. I'm not sure there was another route? She would've had to apply for a visa to visit here, which likely would have been denied (a friend of ours was denied when trying to visit her bf), and we legally can't get married in her country.
  11. My understanding is once we get married, she can fill out form i-765 and that takes 4 to 7 months to process. So roughly ~6 months? What are the specific rules on not being allowed to work until she receives works authorization? We both separately run an online business. Does this mean she can no longer manage or earn money from her online business? What about my business, can she perform work for my business for free? If i'm at a craft fair, and she is behind my table helping me sell merchandise (as an assistant/volunteer, not an employee), is that technically legal or illegal? I work part time for another business that would hire her the moment she is allowed to be employed. Would that help allow her to start working sooner? I know these are very specific questions! I hope I can get some answers so I know what to expect when she arrives next year. Thank you! ❤️
  12. If you show you have around $50k to $60k in cash in your bank, you'd probably be fine.
  13. Thank you, thats what I have been wondering. I emailed who I have insurance with, but they told me to contact the marketplace, so I'll be doing that next. Its still estimated to be around a year until she arrive, so its no rush at least.
  14. well.. not until she is allowed to work. Last I checked it will likely be around ~6 months until she can start working once she arrives due to work authorization and green card applications being slow to process.
  15. I'm self-employed, so that isn't an option for me
  16. Thats what I'm trying to figure out. if I'm able to add her to my current plan with the credits or not. Would adding her mean I no longer will be eligible for the credits? Do you know how?
  17. I have healthcare through the healthcare.gov marketplace. The government pays for some/most of my monthly insurance cost. When my fiancee arrives here, and before she gets her green card, will she be able to join my plan or get her own insurance? I'm concerned since I believe this is considered government assistance and from my understanding of the I-864, the government won't provide any assistance to her? Would I no longer get deductions on my health insurance if she joins my plan?
  18. Sounds exactly like my fiancee and her daughter (8 years old). Her daughter effectively/legally has no father. Good luck to the both of us that it doesn't harm us getting accepted in some way.
  19. I believe any forms submitting only need to be true on the date they are signed. Any changes afterwards aren't necessary to update.
  20. Probably the biggest difference between what is considered a residence vs a non-residence is if he had personal mail sent to the address or not. I would certainly say any location he had personal mail sent to him at would be considered a residence.
  21. I got a 2nd job making $12/hr now. 😄 I should easily reach ~$30k/yr threshold now, and if not, my savings will only grow higher by the time we get to that step, so it should make up for any small shortcoming.
  22. income alone is just a bad measure, imo. There is a biiiiiiig difference between having to pay $2,700 for an average 1 BR apartment in los angeles vs paying a $550 mortgage in Alabama. And as soon as my fiancee is allowed to work, she'll be working too, so its not like I need to support her and her daughter alone for the rest of my life. My previous year was a lot better, $41k lol Thats interesting to know its not a hard rule. I'll definitely be looking to increase my income now. I didn't have too much motivation before, but now I do.
  23. I read this https://citizenpath.com/faq/use-assets-i-864/ So as long as I boost my income a little bit (it'll definitely be higher this year, 2022 was an unusually bad year), I should be able to make up the ~$10,000 difference with my ~$50k in cash and stock assets, right?
