  1. Hi everyone, I am a US citizen who has been residing in Canada for over five years. We just received our I-130 approval and intro letter from the NVC. I have a question regarding the Affidavit of Support requirements, and cannot seem to find any answers or experiences from others.

I am employed by a Canadian company and will continue to be employed with them working remotely when we move to the US. I have been employed with them for year(s) and will have a letter confirming I will continue to be employed remotely and paid X salary while living in the US. I have filed taxes every year since I've lived in Canada.

Will my Canadian income be enough for the Affidavit of Support? I am worried that because the income does not come from the US, it will not be enough.

If it isn't enough, does NVC send RFEs for joint sponsors, or immediately refuse the application? I can have a joint sponsor no problem, but it would be easiest to avoid it if we can..

Does anyone have personal experience with this, and if so, did it happen to be through Montreal?

    Thank you in advance!

  2. @Denokarter Hey, I see this was posted nearly a year ago, and I am currently looking for answers to the same question. Did you get approved by listing your husband's income in Canada, along with proof he will work remotely for the Canadian company? Was it enough?  I haven't found anyone else in this situation, and I am in the same position working for a Canadian company and will continue to do so remotely when we move to the US. I am the petitioner and US citizen and have been living in Canada since 2015.

I would greatly appreciate any feedback from you on this! Thank you so much.

I filed on January 28th and last I checked my case is also in Potomac. In the past few months our estimated time went from 11 months, to 5 months, to 3 weeks for like a day or so, and now it’s been at 4 months for about a month or so. I’m trying to hope that the estimate is correct, but I know realistically it probably isn’t. But still. I’m living overseas with my husband who I’m sponsoring and I’m ready to go “home” aka America.

So bizarre to me how so many people have different timelines in their account even though we filed around the same time. Mine now says two weeks, so I'll let you know if I actually hear anything. Looks like the standard is getting the "taking longer than normal" message for months, or pure luck.

I am also in the same boat as you. Good luck to us all!
