  1. What’s the average timeframe to get the SSN after crossing the border and activating the green card?
  2. Anyone activate their Greencards at Windsor/Detroit? Experience, timeline? TIA
  3. Anyone have information on importing your car? Can you just drive it across the border when you activate the green card or is there a lot of prep work to do ahead of time? TIA
  4. How extensive is the medical? What did they check or ask about? Also does the doctor get access to your medical records in Canada or do we have to bring documents with us? Thanks
  5. I have a second home already in the US. I can job hunt online so could keep physically working in Canada while I send out resumes. Would need a good accountant though.
  6. Any know the logistics of, or if you can keep your current job (in my case Canadian) while you activate the green card, get a SSN and start job hunting in the US? I guess from a tax perspective you become a resident of the US when you cross the border. It would be ideal to keep my current job until I secure something good in the US but I have a feeling it’s not possible.
  7. Hey folks, are there cases where you can “fail” the interview and get a flat out denial? I understand sometimes they request more paperwork, etc. I’m EB2 NIW.
  8. Credit history is per country, you can’t transfer that. However when applying for a mortgage in the US they did look at my Canadian credit rating for leverage. Once you open the US account, you can also get a credit card and at least that will start a credit history. I’ve also had a mortgage for six years. I’m still waiting for the interview.
  9. HSBC has a way you can link accounts in different countries. I was able to get an account at HSBC Canada and then at HSBC USA. At the time I had to show that I had property in the US to qualify. Then they have an option called Global Transfer where you can immediately transfer money between both countries with no fees and decent exchange rates. I can do it on my phone.
  10. How long on average between doing the interview and getting a SSN in hand?
  11. Hi all, new to the forum so excuse the probably repetitive question…I looked at the spreadsheet and just want to confirm I’m reading things right? Approximately 340 days to wait from when my documents were approved to when I may expect an interview in Montreal? I’m a Canadian citizen living in Canada on the EB2 NIW visa application. Thanks for any clarification.
