  1. Hello again, My wife lives on the island of Okinawa, but her interview with the U.S. Embassy or Consulate is slated to be held in Tokyo (mainland Japan). No date has been scheduled just yet. How do we go go about having her interview changed from Tokyo to Okinawa? Do we just submit an inquiry via this form?: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resources/ask-nvc.html?fbclid=IwAR3yTD25H5FBWGpYUj1FCz_rGiA4g8nQh3Stst5P_S1i4-Yu3Ek_Bd6IzB4 Is there a better, more preferred way? Ideally, we'd love to save her the unnecessary cost of travel and hotel expenses to conduct her eventual interview. Thank you in advance for any insight, Michael
  2. Hello there, I am presently working my way through filling out my AOS Form I-864 and am getting stuck on a few (potentially trivial) things and was seeking clarification please. For starters, in the Form I-864 instructions, it states, "If your answer to a question which requires a numeric response is zero or none (for example, “How many children do you have” or “How many times have you departed the United States”), type or print “None,” unless otherwise directed." Does this include parts where it asks me not applicable A-numbers or USCIS Online Account Numbers for nonexistent additional 'Family Members'? I.E. - for Part 3. 7 & 8, do I put "None" or N/A" since I am only sponsoring my wife and no one else? Am I overthinking this part? Is the NVC as strict with their "everything must be filled out 100% perfectly" rules as the USCIS? Additionally, for Part 6, line 7: are they asking me to input my current individual annual income as of last year? Or do I put what I am making now, taking into consider my modest but most recent salary bump? I only ask this as I work a part time job additionally on Saturdays and can only 'ball park' what that particular job's annual income will yield as I occasionally miss a week here and there. In other words: is a rough, but fairly accurate and truthful, individual annual income "guesstimation" sufficient? And lastly (for now), for Part 7. use of Assets to Supplemental Income, I definitely exceed the Federal Poverty Guidelines for my household size. Just put 'N/A/ in all the non-applicable boxes even though they are mostly asking for numerical values? Thank you emphatically in advance for feedback and insight! Best, Michael
  3. Hmm. I am earnestly unsure. My immediate thought was that they, perhaps, thought something was missing, only to find out that it actually *wasn't -- hence the cancellation in RFE request? Have there been any updates since? Any subsequent emails?
  4. I hear ya -- I hesitated a month before submitting as I securitized every and last detail for those said reasons! I cannot say with absolute certainty which way is better but I am personally "old school", so I printed and mailed mine out Priority Express. Was received next day and approved a week later though! If mailing, do your OCD/anxiety a favor and make copies of everything before you send them so, if ever in doubt, you can always look at your 'back ups' and remind yourself exactly what was sent. It's what I always do at least. Good luck, you can do this!!
  5. Okay. Will reread them. I guess I just assumed it'd be the regular one but I'll take another look! Thanks.
  6. You're welcome! I honestly don't feel that you *need one but again I felt it couldn't hurt to include one so that's what I did. (It also just shows appreciation for their extra efforts, etc.) Mine said: "Dear USCIS officer, Please find the enclosed revised and corrected I-130A form, completed in full. I sincerely thank you for your time and for allowing me to fix my previous errors. If any additional information is needed on my part, please do not hesitate to reach out and ask. Thank you again, XXX" And I included my reference number, etc. There's plenty of available examples if you search online. Hope this helps! 🙂
  7. Thank you! I am a full time educator with a side job as a PCA and I'd only be sponsoring my wife (and possibly her two cats lol). Will relook at the form instructions. Would it not just be the regular I-184 though? Thanks in advance.
  8. Hi there. I'm about to start the arduous task of filing out my AOS document for my spouse. Seeking confirmation first that: A.) I can ask questions here (after carefully skimming the thread to see if they've already been addressed)? B.) To start, I'd just fill out the regular I-864, no? Not the I-864EZ? Thank you in advance.
  9. Sorry for the super late reply. I ended up taking someone from here's advice and just went to H&R Block (my first time ever having someone help me with my taxes). The agent who assisted me was amazing and helped me get everything squared away and (finally) filed. Thank you so much for your tips and reccomendations though! All The best, Mike
  10. Yep! That's more-or-less what I did. I just signed as the spouse's petitioner and made sure to write 'N/A' in any boxes that did not apply to us.
  11. Hello there. Sorry for the late reply! YES -- everything went PERFECT with the RFE I-130A (re)submission. We were approved eight days after receiving! I was in genuine shock and elation. I ended up submitting a very short cover letter JIC and just rewrote everything by hand. For the USCIS provided cover letter I did also end up checking off "other" and just writing 'I-130A'. Again, don't know if this was absolutely necessary but I figured definitely better be safe than sorry. Hope this helps! Good luck to you and your submission!
  12. This may be an even DUMBER question (not that I thought yours was at all honestly), but does the petitioner also get separately interviewed at any point? Or is it just something for the beneficiary/applicant? 🤔 Thanks in advance.
  13. Copy that, thanks. When submitting a copy of your federal taxes along with your state, you sent a printed copy of you and your wife's signatures or an actual duplicate of your actual signed pages? Thank you again. This has been a big help.
  14. You submitted a printed scanned copy of her signature or she mailed her signed print out of the form to you? Do I have to do the same thing when submitting my state taxes (an explanation of my wife's W-7 application)? Thank you.
  15. As of write now I am leaning towards the former, though just have her print the pages needed her to sign, sign them, and then mail me those to finish filling out and include with the rest of the 1040 form as to not waste the time it would take for me to mail them to her first. Does that sound prudent in your opinion? Thank you for sharing your experiences. I take then that you filed MFS?
  16. And if I owe filing MFS -- that has to paid upfront or can I "arrange a payment plan" which intention to amend once my wife is living here? Thank you.
  17. Good to know! Would I be eligible to do this if my wife was not here in the U.S. at the time though? Thank you.
  18. I apologize, was not my intent. I took 'merged thread' to mean multiple similar questions could be also posted. Thank you for redirecting me.
  19. 2ND EDIT: And sorry for my perhaps childish tone two replies ago; this is all just so stressing and confusing to all sort out. I definitely appreciate your feedback!
  20. EDIT: Would a scanned (digital) copy of her signature do? When they, the NVC, say they need my most recent tax return (would last year's, 2021) suffice? I have this year's W-2; just need to get my tax '23 stuff sorted out but don't want to risk delaying the next steps of our visa / NVC process. Thank you again.
  21. She has to sign the tax return, too?? Why did I not think of this / know this earlier when i had her mail me the W-7 form?? 😭😤 We officially just made it to the NVC step. Would all this tax stuff GREATLY delay our process of advancing? I haven't even began to proceed with the NVC email welcoming directions as I've been dealing this getting all this tax garbage sorted out. Can I just say "F it" and file 'single' just to get things processed and moving and amend later? Or file 'married separately'? I wouldn't need her signature then, would I? Just sucks as I owe $900 filing 'single' or 'married separately' and we stand to conceivably get that much *back IF I can successfully file 'married jointly'. Thank you again for your advice and shared experiences.
  22. Thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry; I misspoke (my wife and I were sure to leave her social blank on the W-7 form), just my 1040 Federal & State tax return has all 9's in the spot for her social. Does that matter greatly? Wouldn't they be able to see that we don't have a social for her at time of mail filing along with a W-7 application? I suppose it wouldn't be the *worst thing to have to start over and print by hand but I'm wary I'll miss somethin' and mess something up, thus delaying things further. 😣 If I look into submitting these all to an acceptance agent, they handle everything then and there (including the acceptance and processing of my now late return)? My wife *doesn't have to be present to do so? Thanks again in advance.
  23. I have yet to submit anything. I just received her filled out and signed W-7 and corresponding documents in the mail. I wish to mail out ASAP but want to make sure I am doing so properly. I have my completed PDF Turbo Tax tax federal form printed and ready to attach with it (the W-7), but am worried about my wife's social being plugged in as '999-99-9999' on them as one IRS agent has now told me to leave it blank but I cannot change it online and save and print. Is it fine? Do I need to reprint my tax forms (have yet to officially mail either) and re-write by hand? Please and thank you in advance.
  24. Hello there, I am in a somewhat similar situation. My wife's I-130 petition was officially approved this previous Thursday (June 08, 2023). I tried filing my taxes 'married jointly' online via TurboTax (she is still living in Japan), but I was unable to file due to not having an ITIN number for her. I filed for an extension and had her fill out a W-7 form and mail it to me along with an international driver's license and her country's equivalent of a birth certificate. Her filled out W-7 form and corresponding documents arrived finally and now I wish to get this and my federal taxes mailed out ASAP, but I have a few burning questions still if I may ask here: After numerous attempts, I was able to *finally* finish my taxes on Turbo Tax and save as a PDF for mailing but after a careful examination of them, it says on the final page marked 'ELECTRONIC POSTMARK - CERTIFICATION OF ELECTRONIC FILING', "Your return has been rejected by the IRS". Does it just say this, because I had to fill in all 9's for my wife's social security number to be able to submit? If I mail in what I have now, will they (my 2022 taxes) still be accepted? And secondly, the instructions on the IRS website say to leave the social security field for the spouse that you are applying an ITIN number for blank -- but clearly I had to put all 9's in to be able to (attempt) to file. Will this qualify my taxes (or at least my ITIN application) rejected?? Any insight into this would be GREATLY appreciated; I am quite vexed what exactly to do and time is officially ticking... 😓 Thank you in advance.
