  1. what type of funding is considered government funding?
  2. I will do hardship. My main concern is what happens if I get an answer in the middle of the residency year 4 or 5 and do not have time for EAD for the next year. How does this work? What if I get a not favorable recommendation, will I be able to get J1 and finish residency?
  3. Good evening everyone. When is the optimal time for a third-year resident on a J-1 visa, currently in a five-year program, to apply for a J-1 waiver based on hardship? Should I consider applying during the fourth year after J1 for 5th year is approved or earlier? Also planning to do 1 year fellowship. As far as I know you can apply for J1 if there is no decision/recommendation yet.
  4. Thank you for your answer. There is a question in ECFMG J1 sponsorship application that asks if you have ever applied for or received a waiver. How does this affect the J1 sponsorship if you answer yes (i.e. considering that you have applied for a waiver and still waiting)?
  5. Does this apply to fellowship visa applications too? I mean, for the fellowship application you get a new statement of need that says you ll go back and your visa application needs DOS approval. Will this cause any issues while the waiver application is pending at USCIS or later at DOS? thanks
