You can travel to US as a visitor on Canadian passport. Carry the proof of your ties to Canada with you just in case. If CBP ask you about CR1 visa, tell them it is in processing.

Our 221g slip says Passport (When requested). Passport is needed to stamp visa once the clearance is received that could be from several months to more than a year for MTL. In my view DS-5535 is for consular processing via embassy. If you are not Canadian citizen and need to stamp non-immigrant visa after immigrant visa stuck in AP via consulate, there is a chance you end up getting DS-5535 if flagged or on the CO discretion again. One guy was able to stamp L2 visa at border even though he was placed in AP(DS-5535) for EB category visa and was awaiting clearance by MTL. Folks are also getting green card via AOS in 3-6 months if they are in US on non-immigrant visas even though their cases for EB categories are still in AP for several months in MTL.

What is the category of your non-immigrant visa? Are you Canadian citizen?

National Vetting Center is used for clearance of non-immigrant visas and it should be more efficient than the KFE vetting system that is used to clear immigrant and K1 visas. You should get few updates once the DS-5535 form is submitted and then 3-4 more updates once the clearance is received from DC.

Not sure about legality of filing for AOS for IR category visas if you are applying it after placed in AP. Some folks with EB visa and already working in US on work visa are getting green card via AOS in 6 months despite they are still in AP via consular processing for several months.

We received GC last week (26 days approximately) but SSN card has not been delivered yet. What is the timeframe for SSN card delivery? We opted to received SSN on DS-260 form.

Your wife can travel to US as a visitor while her case is in AP. She needs to carry proof of her ties to Canada like return ticket (if traveling by air) or anything document on her name in Canada that shows she will be coming back just in case. If CBP officer ask her about visa case. Just tell them it is in processing.

I agreed CO can issue DS-5535 on his own judgement (Carson WU declaration also confirmed it). I believed that (CO issued DS-5535)/(System issued DS-5535) ratio is very high for MTL.

If you get more unsolicited updates in April/May then that is a good sign.

Consulate asked you to wait because of DS-5535, They only need to cancel your old unexpired visa on third country passport before they stamp IR visa. I am hoping State Dept will switch security clearance to National Vetting Center for immigrant and K1 visas this year. That will expedite the clearance process for everyone. Keep your fingers crossed.

Congrats! Did consulate ask you to update DS-260 form and submit 2023 tax returns if you have not submitted them already? What happen to your WOM?

Someone told me that green card and SSN card (Selected YES on DS-260 form) are delivered in same mailing package. Is this correct?

Islamabad consulate does issue a DS-5535 to female applicants (may be very few cases). Even, not many DS-5535 cases for male applicants?

It is 10 characters confirmation number starting with AA (AA......) on DS-260 confirmation page( Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration Application Confirmation) page. Go to NVC site and view your DS-260 form to get confirmation number.

If you have not received any email from consulate after interview. It means consulate is checking something on your application. Do you have any issue or violations when you used to live in USA. I know one case where mother of US citizen entered US illegally 20 years back and CO refused her application(221g) and sent her email to explain that (whether she committed fraud to enter US or just crossed border as illegal immigrant) but she was issued visa after 2 months. Anyway it is good sign and just wait and keep sending them email every 2 weeks as you do not know the reason.

Regarding the new generic email reply from consulate, they might update their software and this message may be specific to SAO (DS-5535). We need to see if other folks who submitted DS-5535 are getting same reply from now on or not.

Your mom can accompany your dad a visitor while activating green card. It is better she carries some proof of ties to Canada just in case although they did not ask in our case.

You can provide new information to document collection window and CO at the time of interview. If your son passport is not issued yet. You can provide it later but consulate will serve you 221g for son application. If you have five days before interview., you can walk into passport office and apply for expedited passport.
