Less than a year into suburban life, the 20 years old water heater was on its last leg (to be fair, it lasted twice as long as expected, and we did get the seller to accept a lower bid than asking price). They could not accept my German driver license as apparently whatever visitor entry system they had require filling in expiration dates, and this license does not have one! I just shrugged it off -- if I really wanted to I could have come back with my passport -- but yeah. The one thing to get used to in the US is that there is a proliferation of IDs, and different federal, state, and local government offices might have a different understanding of what IDs are valid (let alone stores!) -- it definitely adds some inconvenience early on but it's not the end of the world. FWIW in my past experience most stores that age check seem to happily accept passports.

That's correct - but based on other cases we see in the timeline database for the Chicago office, some took longer (we filed in March, some people who filed in December are also getting interviewed in July) Can't tell you about the interview yet since we have not had it! Biometrics was smooth, the people at the ASC were friendly and chatty. We joked a bit about how difficult pronouncing words or names from other languages can be!

As a concrete case, we did biometrics 04/13, interview notice was given May 24 (PDF only, still haven't received the mail) for 07/13. We are filing under the 5 year rule so the earliest interview date would have been 06/20

Agreed with others here - you can just decline same day oath ceremony if offered, with the reason that you have immediate travel planned (second hand experience from a colleague in California) Not sure if it will count as one of the two rescheduling you can do, hopefully not.

It is possible yours is dealing with more cases Here in Chicago, we get our interview notice about 6 weeks after biometrics -- though somehow it still has not been mailed after over 2 weeks, or USPS lost it. But at least we have the PDFs.

If you know where the ceremony will be held, they might have a website - I haven't gone to my interview yet, but I checked and the courthouse likely to be used has a FAQ page that says guests are allowed. Good luck! Our concern will be the same as @kiwibean- that the ceremony might be long, so preferably we'll keep our toddler in his daycare but we might need to rethink depending on the schedule
