I went to Cosenza to attain my family documents for my dual citizenship (Italian American). I asked my hotel clerk for a phone book to make an approximation of my family origin. After reading the phone book and making notes for about 2 hours, the clerk asked me if he could help. (Foreign woman reading the phone book all afternoon.) A student of linguistics and archive research, he escorted me to the offices of records the next day where we searched all day. I left to visit a friend in Rome the next day and he followed me there by train (asking permission first). We loitered in Rome, ran for trains, and waited in bitter cold to say goodbye for the second time but with promises this time. The whole story is one for our future generations to rejoice.
