  1. Oh I'm sorry! I don't use this site much so my mistake. Thanks for answering though.
  2. Thank you for clarifying. I dont believe we met the criteria for DCF which is why we filed online
  3. USC submitted for foreign spouse and minor child 20th September 2023, active reviewing since 28th September 2023, consular processing from the UK. Just getting antsy at the lack of updates but I get the idea that this is normal. I guess I just need some reassurance it'll have some movement soon? Nebraska service centre.
  4. @Mike E apologies I have worded it wrong and possibly misunderstood on my end. I just meant without using any sort of paid service to do expat taxes on your behalf (myexpattaxes for example)
  5. Accidental American here and didn't realise I was supposed to be filing taxes. Born, lived and worked in the UK my entire life, got my first US passport this year and went into a blind panic when I realised I'm supposed to file taxes and provide transcripts for the I-864 Affidavit of Support, as me, my husband (UK citizen) and 3yr old daughter are planning to move to the US. We have submitted I-130 forms. My father has agreed to be a joint sponsor (earns well over the amounts required for household size). My question is, has anyone done the streamline procedure themselves without the help of an expat tax company or software? I want to get myself compliant ASAP and cannot afford to pay upwards of £700 to get it done by someone else. If anyone has done this, any pointers/tips/advice would be helpful please!
  6. I submitted my husband and daughter's I-130 forms on the same day, named them on the petitions as additional family etc but my daughter's petition has a shorter estimated processing time than my husband's, is this normal? Should I be concerned?
  7. Is there a certain amount of time once I-130 is approved to file for the DS-260? I'm wondering because obviously the I-130 takes the longest to get approved, but once approve do we have to immediately file for the immigrant visa? Obviously once I-130 is filed we will work on certain things in preparation of an approval but there will be some things we cannot take care of until we know what the decision is/things we cannot take care of until very last minute like selling furniture and car, taking care of outgoing expenses, handing in notices at work etc, so is there a window in which you have to file? I hope this makes sense! I know once DS260 is approved you have 6 months to enter the US.
  8. We are travelling to the US in June and I plan to open a bank account, get my state ID etc which I have been told shows I am establishing domicile? I have never lived in the US before so I am unsure as to how I would provide tax returns for the I-864?
  9. I have lived in the UK all my life, I dont have the first clue about filing US taxes!
  10. I think we do too. My stepmother works part time so her salary would not be enough to sponsor, it would be my father's income that meets the requirements
  11. I am a US citizen but have never worked or lived in the US, I have citizenship through my father. Upon moving, I know I will have to file an I-864 on behalf of my husband and daughter, with my father as the co-sponsor. How would I go about doing this from outside the US? A free consultation with a lawyer advised us about a getting a letter from my father and stepmother saying they would support us but not sure how this fits in with the documents we need to file?
  12. Yes I am aware of the fees, this is why we can't file right away as we do not have the money yet
  13. We have to save some money first before we can file! But rest assured we will be doing this as soon as we possibly can. Thank you for your help. Thank you for your help.
  14. @Mike EI am new to the forum so don't know how to reply properly but... - We plan to start the process in the fall, around September time. - my daughter will be 3 in September - I was 3 months old approximately
  15. I am a US citizen living in the UK, never lived in the States (British mother and American father divorced when he was based here in the US Air Force after I was born, he went back to America, remarried etc but we have a good relationship). I am married to a UK husband and we have a daughter together. We are planning to move to be with my father in the US for a few years. I know my husband would need an I-130 and a DS-260 to immigrate, but I am unsure what to file for for my daughter? I was advised by a lawyer to file for an N600-K for her as she can acquire citizenship via her grandfather (my father), but would she also need a DS-260 to immigrate with us? Or is this wrong and should I file for I-130 AND DS-260 for her?
